BUXTON, SIR THOMAS POWELL (1786-1845), English philanthropist, was born in Essex on the 1st of April 1786, and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, where, in spite of his early education having been neglected, hard work made him one of the first men of his time, with a high reputation as a speaker.
Buxton devoted his life to this object, and through defeat and opposition, despite the attacks of enemies and the remonstrances of faint-hearted friends, he remained true to it.
The Old Hall hotel at the west end of the Crescent stands on the site of the mansion built in -1572 by the earl of Shrewsbury in the reign of Queen Elizabeth, which was the residence of Mary queen of Scots when she visited the town.

Hall's articles on Haddon), "are of undoubted Norman origin, and it is not unlikely that these were grafted on a Saxon erection; the hall-porch, the magnificent kitchen and adjoining offices, the great or banqueting hall, part of the north-east tower, etc., belong to the next later period, from 1300 to 1380.
The banqueting hall is thirty-five feet in length and twenty-five in width.
At the opposite-end of the hall is the raised dais for the lord of the hall, his family and guests, and here still stands the fine old table on which many a banquet was served.

Herbert was born Nov 14th 1856 and Thomas and Benjerman were killed in WW1 and are on the memorial in Buxton church.
Buxton Youth FC U14 have won the last two matches and are playing at home in a cup match on the 6 Jan at the rec it would be nice for all in the village to go and support if they win this they are through to the next round.
