Most maps of the Three Kingdoms period show Baekje occupying the Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces, and indeed during the Ungjin period and Sabi period this was the core of the country, over which Baekje maintained control until the end.
Chinese artisans were sent to the kingdom by the Liang Dynasty in 541, and this may have given rise to an increased Chinese influence in the Sabi period.

Despite the uncertainty of its origins, the third kingdom most certainly began as a city-state, member of the Mahan confederacy in the Han River basin (near present-day Seoul), but expanded into the southwest (Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces) of the peninsula and became a significant political and military power.
According to legend, he kingdom Silla began with the unification of six chiefdoms of the Jinhan confederacy by Bak Hyeokgeose in 57 BCE.
