"Bwana Devil," on which Pink served as associate producer with the movie's producer-writer-director Arch Oboler, was a surprise hit.

Stack said "Bwana Devil" was "enough of an eye catcher" to prompt Jack Warner to come out with his own 3-D production - the 1953 film "The House of Wax," starring Vincent Price.

I would recommend 'Bwana Devil' film for anyone who is interested in ho is interested in the Tsavo Maneater story, but I cannot give it the glowing review I gave 'The Ghost and the Darkness'.
However, 'Bwana Devil' was ahead of it's time in that it used the more advanced polarization 3-D system.
The fact that it required two projectors to show the film, was probably a large part of the reason that 3-D did not last very long as a mainstream film format.

In 1952, the polaroid system for 3-D movies was introduced in the movie "Bwana Devil" produced by Sydney W. Pink, who is considered the father of the 3-D genre.
Since the polaroid system used light waves projected on perpendicular planes, it could be used with full color movies.
The success of "Bwana Devil" peaked interest in 3-D movies, leading the important release of "House of Wax" the next year.

The genre as a whole just doesn’t interest me. I’m going to make an exception, though, in the case of Bwana Devil because of the tremendous significance of this all-but-forgotten film in the history of exploitation cinema as a whole.
In every respect but one, Bwana Devil is a most unimpressive movie (although the lion-attack scenes are uniformly hilarious).
There are very few “hey, look at this— it’s in 3-D” moments in Bwana Devil, and all but one of them makes good narrative sense, rather than coming across as an ill-considered cheap shot.

Robert Stack, Nigel Bruce and Barbara Britton appear in the dramatized sequences, which look like they were filmed for an entirely different movie.
The main attraction of Bwana Devil, then and now, is its gimmicky 3-D photography, replete with thrown spears and leaping lions assaulting the camera.

This 1952 film was composed of mostly stock footage, it gave audiences a chance to watch lions and elephants dance in their lap, while they got headaches and crapped in their seats.
