Victor would watch, spellbound, on his way to and from school as Gilady created wonderful images on the blank canvas.
After two and half years of training in the Mossad, Victor became a katsa, (case officer) after serving in the field and becoming aware of the activities of elements within the agency that had more to do with self preservation than the good of the country he left the service.
After five years of trying to inform the powers to be with little success he wrote an exposé "By Way Of Deception" that shook the foundations of the agency and is said to have brought about change.

You may have heard, by the way, that Moore is less of a presence in Fahrenheit 9/11 than he was in his previous pictures.
For perhaps the first time in his career, he shows someone as a fully rounded personality, animated by beliefs and loyalties that he does not necessarily share but must respect; and so he allows her emotions to overwhelm his cleverness.

 Book Review
Victor Ostrovsky, author of "By Way of Deception", was a high-ranking member of the Mossad, Israel’s ultra-secret intelligence department similar to the CIA, for several years before his sudden departure due to finding himself the fall guy for an embarrassing oversight by his superiors.
Although “By Way of Deception” was originally published in 1990, Ostrovsky’s stunning revelations paint a very dark picture about the mindset of Israel’s ruling establishment and its persistent tendency to view all the rest of the world’s nations as potential adversaries.
“By Way of Deception” by Victor Ostrovsky and Claire Hoy was published first in 1990 by St. Martin’s Press, is available from www.amazon.com.

Victor Ostrovsky - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1990 he published By Way of Deception, which he claimed to be about secret Mossad operations and in which he also claimed to have exposed many Mossad operatives by first name.
Some critics have charged that the book is essentially a novel written by a professional novelist, and that a junior employee would never have learned so many operational secrets.
Ostrovsky further claims that the PLO warned him, as a representative of progressive elements within the Mossad, that if negotiations were not to ensue in good faith on both sides, that more radical parties than the PLO would take over.
