Topic: Byards Leap

Leap year Encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
A leap year (or intercalary year) is a year containing an extra day (or, in case of lunisolar calendars, an extra month) in order to keep the calendar year synchronised with the astronomical or seasonal year.
In the Chinese calendar the leap month is added according to a complicated rule, which ensures that month 11 is always the month that contains the northern winter solstice.
A system of 128-year-based leap years has been proposed, and it can be adopted directly without any modification to current leap year calculations until the year 2048.

To the north-west of Sleaford lies the parish of Cranwell and Byard’s Leap, this parish includes Cranwell village, the Royal Air Force Cranwell College and airfield and, between this site and Ermine Street the hamlet of Byard’s Leap.
Byard, very old and returning from the Crusades with his rider, found that their community (now Ancaster) had been terrorised by a local witch.
In one last desperate attempt to rid the village of this evil woman, Byard made one last gasp effort and one enormous leap to chase the wicked witch away, sadly the effort was too much and Byard died, but he left his horseshoes (two sets!!!) to mark the site!
