Before being conquered by the Kingdom of Macedonia in the 3d century BC the territory of the present Republic of Macedonia was occupied by Paeonia, an Illyrian-Thracian kingdom centered around Bylazora (modern Veles) and nearby Stobi.
Under the Romans, Stobi became the chief city of Vardar Macedonia, which in the late Roman period was called Macedonia Salutaris.

I have chosen to represent them as part of the ‘assorted mercenaries’ which is possible but actually unlikely, as they seem to have had a completely individual fighting style, and more importantly, be regarded as subjects rather than mercenaries.
The omission of Paionians is also surprising as Philip had occupied Bylazora, its major town, early in his reign (P.5-97-1).
Philip also had Boiotians serving with him (P.18-43-1), although these may have been part of the mercenaries.
