It is on a river, has some lovely old bridges, mountains surrounding and is chock full of templey goodness.
We had arrived to see Byoodoin, which is pretty much the only thing guide books say Uji has to offer, but the tourist map from the railway station showed it had masses of stuff to see.
We made our way to Byoodoin, wandered along the suggested route to the Phoenix Hall, and just as we got there an enormous cloud covered the sun, so the famous reflection was not looking its best.

But it’s late, I should get some quality sleep and I’m heading out for an awesome trip tomorrow – going to a Genji Monogatari (Tales of Genji) museum, Uji city (it’s got a gorgeous Byoodoin there!) and Fushimiinari (where that long line of red tori gates is in “Memoirs of a Geisha”).
And I must recharge my camera battery, just in case.
