Byrne Piven, 72, an Evanston acting teacher and Chicago theater icon, died Monday after a four-month battle with cancer.
Piven was a generous man. In addition to an illustrious career in theater and small roles in films, he spent much of his life teaching hundreds of children and adults his intense version of the acting craft.
Piven settled in Evanston in the late 1960s and ran the Piven Theatre Workshop with his wife, Joyce, for the past 30 years.
