For Gallimore and Stroud, it's a never-ending cycle that includes the aforementioned parties and the staff of Gallimore Productions, where his wife, Missi, and the entire team — including his son and mother-in-law — are always looking and listening.
When McGraw is absent, Gallimore and Stroud work in what Stroud describes as “a tag-team process.” Being musicians, he agrees, gives them an edge in what they listen for and how they know when it's right.

Originally billed as "Strapping Young Lad lite" and rumored to be a project with Devin, Jason Newsted of Metallica, and SYL drummer Gene Hoglan, Physicist redefines what melody and metal should sound like when melded together.
Physicist is basically the SYL lineup of Townsend, bassist Byron Stroud, guitarist Jed Simon, and Hoglan on drums.
With Devin on keys and guitar, there is a light, high-pitched synthetic aura behind each song that enhances Devin's familiar screams, most noticeable on the appropriate opener, "Namaste", a song about how Devin is tired of the meaningless, clichéd words that so many songwriters use today.

Devin Townsend made a name for himself as a vocalist for such artists as the Wildhearts and Steve Vai, but upon forming the interestingly-named Strapping Young Lad, he took a much different musical direction, and in doing so he has become an extremely popular figure in the metal world.
Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing was essentially a Townsend solo effort, but by the time of the followup (City), the lineup of Townsend, Jed Simon, Byron Stroud (the pair also in the zany thrash combo Zimmers Hole), and much-travelled and esteemed drummer Gene Hoglan was in place.
The band's unique take on dark, extremely heavy, industrial-tinged metal has proven quite popular as well as very influential, judging from the the Mnemics and Scarves of the world.
