A provisional committee of the leading citizens of Bytown was formed to canvas for stock subscriptions, to petition the different municipalities along the railway line for financial support, and to generally promote the venture.
On December 10, the Prescott and Bytown delegations met halfway at the Kemptville Town Hall and a 12 man delegation was formed to solicit more subscriptions in Kemptville, Smiths Falls, and Merrickville.

 First Railway in Ottawa
The Bytown and Prescott Railway was formed in 1850 and started looking for funds.[2] Subscriptions for stock were slow in coming but by the end of that year Bytown, Prescott and several smaller communities had pledged to give a bonus to the railway when it completed its line.
The Bytown Packet was a forerunner of the present day Ottawa Citizen and its proprietor, Robert Bell, the secretary of the company, played a significant role in completing the line.
To its right is the Collège de Bytown (Lasalle Academy) of 1852 and a little further right the Mother House and infirmary of the Grey Nuns of 1849, with its central spire.

The Bytown Art Group evolved from a meeting held at the Union Mission, a long-time shelter for men in downtown Ottawa in October 1996.
The Bytown Art Group grew from that meeting, started creating art in 1997, and were still at it four years later.
At first, the group met weekly in a donated space at Options Bytown (a non-profit housing building in the neighbourhood); space was later donated by Sandy Hill Community Health Centre.

The Bytown and Prescott Railway was formed in 1850 and one of the first steps was to survey a route.
North West from Bytown lies the vast region of the “Upper Ottawa,” displaying thriving settlements, on each side of the River, for a distance of 120 miles.
At Bytown, the navigation of the River is intercepted by the “Chaudieres” Falls and Rapids; round which is a “portage” of eight miles—over a fine macadamized road, to the flourishing village of Aylmer.

The Bytown Railway Society is a volunteer, non-profit organization incorporated under federal government statute to promote an interest in railways and railway history.
Among the Society's activities are its twice-monthly meetings, the publication of a magazine for members (Branchline) and the restoration and operation of a number of pieces of historic railway equipment located at the Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa.

"When the line finally came to Bytown, a great number of toasts were raised at Doran's Hotel on Wellington Street to herald the dawn of a new era in the town's history," wrote Nick and Helma Mika in their 1982 book The Early Days of Ottawa.
