		Lewis taught as a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, for nearly thirty years, from 1925 to 1954, and later was the first Professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge.
		Lewis is known for his work on medieval literature, for his Christian apologetics and for his fiction, especially the children’s series entitled The Chronicles of Narnia and his science fiction Space Trilogy.

		The LEWIS family which was living in the Bromsgrove area in the 18th Century were mainly comprised of agricultural labourers, and had probably been living in the area for centuries; the Welsh derivation of the surname suggests an earlier migration along the ancient drovers' roads from the Welsh Marches.
