  The 11th MTN CAF Champions League 2007
This is the premier club championship in Africa commenced in 1997,succeeding the African Cup of Champions Clubs (1964-96).
It is open to all CAF-affiliated National League Champions and the Cup holder.
The 8 teams who are knocked out from the Last 16 stage of the Champions League are then integrated into the Confederation Cup and play, in a direct elimination round after a drawing of lots, against the last eight in the Confederation Cup.

One cannot understand why CAF set a controversial parameter for the new Confederation Cup, which states that if two teams end up with the same number of points in the group phase, their head-to-head games would be used to determine the winner.

Giant-killers Simba of Tanzania continued their upset run in the African Champions League on Sunday by beating top seeds ASEC Abidjan 1-0 in group B. Ulimboka Mwakingwe chipped over the onrushing goalkeeper just four minutes after half-time, to give Simba their first win in the league format of the competition.
Simba knocked out defending champions Zamalek of Egypt in the second round, and disposed of South African champions Santos in the first knockout round on their way to a place in the last eight.

According to CAF regulations, a team that qualifies for any of its competitions should have its registration completed in November of that year.
What is disappointing to note is that the LFA 2002 league champions, LPRC Oilers, a team owned by Liberia's only petroleum refining company, failed to register for the CAF Champions' League, a competition that is very lucrative.

CAF said a statement the expulsion followed a complaint lodged by Burundi`s Inter Stars, CAPS United`s opponents in the first round of the competition, over illegal use of two players signed from Malawi recently by the Zimbabwean side.
CAF upheld the complaint and expelled CAPS United, which was due to play Raja Casablanca of Morocco next week in the second round of the continental tournament.
"CAF has disqualified CAPS United of Zimbabwe from the MTN/CAF Champions League 2006 for using two unqualified players in their match against Inter Stars of Burundi," the continental soccer governing body, said in the statement.

The goal was his 15th in the competition.Frimpong, scored a total of 14 goals in two editions (six in 2003 and eight in 2005) for former Nigerian and CAF champions, Enyimba of Aba.
