ROSA CITY—Majority of businesses and investors in the Calabarzon gave their nod to the recent wage increase in the region which gave employees an average of P10.50 more in their daily wages, officials said on Wednesday.
Lawyer Maximo Lim, director of the Department of Labor and Employment in Calabarzon, said that during consultations with business groups, most of the executives of businesses in the region expressed their support to the new wage order, which will take effect on Aug. 7.
Ed Nicolas, LCCI director, said their members were concerned on the effect of the wage hike on the cost of production and cost of doing business in the Calabarzon growth areas.

According to a recent article in the Philippine Daily Enquirer, the Calabarzon police office has asked the association of trucking companies in the region to install GPS devices in their trucks to prevent hijacking and highway robberies.
Senior Supt. Rodolfo Magtibay, operations chief of the Calabarzon police, said that despite the availability of such technology in the country, the number of trucking companies using GPS in their units is still negligible.
He said the cost of installing GPS units is less than the cost of losing a truck and its cargo.
