CBC Radio 3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
CBC Radio 3 consists of four major parts all devoted to Canadian arts and music: a Sirius Satellite Radio station (channel 94), an 8.5 hour national Saturday evening program on CBC Radio Two, a weekly podcast from the CBC Radio 3 website, and streaming audio on the same website.
Operated by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Radio 3 had its genesis in a 1997 plan to launch a radio network devoted to youth culture, complementing CBC Radio One and CBC Radio Two.
Although the original proposal was abandoned, a slightly different Radio 3 was launched in 2000 as a pilot project hosted by CBC.ca, the CBC's new media division.

Soul Shine Magazine : CBC Radio 3 Re-evaluates Its Reach
Radio 3 reaches into all facets of the Canadian arts: it’s a radio program (duh), online magazine, and series of websites dedicated to Canadian music — those would be newmusiccanada.com, rootsmusiccanada.com, justconcerts.com, and cbcradio3.com.
Currently Radio 3 is heard only on Saturday and Sunday nights, but plans are to expand and feature even more Canadian content and artists that come from the mysterious underground.
If there is CBC Radio 3 content 24/7, it means the end of constantly trying to find a decent radio station that plays more than two good songs in a row; twisting radio dials can give a person very painful hand cramps.

By that, I mean that CBC Radio 3 wasn't always just a podcast; before the CBC brass shut it down and "revamped" it, Radio 3 wasn't very much of a radio station at all; what Radio 3 was really doing was putting together a weekly arts and culture magazine, done entirely in Flash.
In short, Radio 3 was something the rest of the CBC could've taken some lessons from: it was relevant, insightful and unique.
Although the CBC has been discussed plenty of times here in the past, this can be a timely reminder since the lockout by management was recently settled and all programming has gone pretty much back to normal, although the fall launches have been delayed.
