Sony Classical Records was started in 1927 as Masterworks Records, a subsidiary of the American Columbia Records.
In 1948 (renamed to Columbia Masterworks Records), it issued the first long-playing 12" record.
In 1980 the Columbia Masterworks label was renamed CBS Masterworks Records, but in 1990 after CBS Records was acquired by Sony it was finally renamed Sony Classical Records (Its logo echoes the Music Notes logo that was Columbia's emblem until 1955).

A recording made by Oscar Levant would be the music that was played and he would do the fingering that was appropriate to that and sometimes when they came in very tight on the hands it would be Oscar Levant's hands.
Recorded music was constantly being played in the background in the Oval Office, often causing telephoning Congressmen to complain they couldn't hear the President speaking.

The recordings were made in 1984 and are digital, so obviously the CD offers better sound.
The recording is brightly lit in the transatlantic manner and with a resonant acoustic the effect is spectacular in a garish sort of way.
The playing is marvellously seductive throughout and Decca's recording, made in that gorgeously flattering St Eustache ambience, suits the music to perfection.

I’ve long cherished her EMI studio recordings of the Chausson and Berlioz, and although these live recordings are more tentative than those, with some shaky starts of notes and of ensemble, each work builds in security and passion as it proceeds.
The first recording for any with violinist-in-crime Samuel Dushkin, slurs beautifully and dreamily, this 1933 Paris recording clearly a part of the Modernist world, the piano often scaling art deco stairs, but later is just a bucolic frolic between the two.

As the title indicates, this is the first album John Williams recorded for CBS Records after signing to them in early 1964.
Since then, he has averaged at least one album of new recordings every year for the label (which became known as CBS Masterworks in the 1970s and then Sony Classical in 1990).
For technical reasons, CBS Records were known as Columbia Records in North America, and this was reflected in the album's title.

 Donald Hunsberger - Eastman School of Music
In 1987 his scores and recording of Carnaval featuring Wynton Marsalis with the Eastman Wind Ensemble were nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Solo Performance with Orchestra category.
His most recent recording project with the EWE is a three-CD set (The Eastman Wind Ensemble at 50-DHWL 001CD-WBP) celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Under Hunsberger's direction the EWE performed on six tours of Japan and Taiwan between 1990 and 2000, and one throughout Japan and Southeast Asia in 1978 for the Kambara Agency and the U.S. State Department.
