		CCA began in 1977 after drastic commercial overfishing along the Texas coast decimated redfish and speckled trout populations.
		CCA continues to operate as a three-tiered organization, affecting issues on the local, state and national levels.
		CCA and its state-chapter network are engaged in hundreds of local, state and national programs and projects related to marine conservation, including initiating scientific studies, funding marine-science scholarships, building artificial reefs, creating finfish hatcheries, initiating hydrologic and contaminant studies, monitoring the quality and quantity of freshwater inflows, supporting local marine law enforcement and more.

	EPA: Pesticides - Questions & Answers on CCA-Treated Wood Sealant Studies (Interim Results)
		CCA is a wood preservative that has been registered to protect wood from dry rot, fungi, molds, termites and other pests that can threaten the integrity of wood products.
		Even though CCA can no longer be used in residential settings, many existing decks and other structures are made of wood that was treated with CCA.
		The CCA probabilistic children's risk assessment, which examines the potential risks from exposure to arsenic and chromium from CCA-treated wood decks and playgrounds, is scheduled to be revised and finalized in June 2006.

	Canadian Conference of the Arts - Home
		On a related note, the CCA is pleased to announce that Annual Reports from years past (going back to 1999-2000), as well as the By-Laws of the CCA, are also now available online for the first time.
		The CCA will continue to follow the development of the regulations closely and strongly urges its members to check if their organization now falls under the purview of the law and has to register officially with the Lobby Registrar and follow the monthly routine of reporting.
		The Board of Governors of the CCA recently approved a new mission statement during meetings in Montréal on October 20 and 21 2006.

	Lumber Pressure Treated with Chromated Copper Arsenate
		CCA is composed of: copper, which acts as a fungicide; arsenate, a form of arsenic, which is an insecticide; and chromium, which binds the ingredients to the wood.
		As of January 1, 2004, USEPA will not allow CCA products to be used to treat wood intended for any of these residential uses.
		There are many types of less toxic alternatives to CCA-treated wood such as plastic lumber, metal, wood which is naturally resistant to insects and decay, and wood that is pressure treated with less toxic ingredients.
