  CCD Imaging Equipment
As the CCD chip should not be placed more than 57mm from the focal reducer it is not possible to use a flip mirror between the reducer and the CCD camera.
The telenegative increases the focal length of the telescope which is extremely useful for imaging planets where a long focal length is required to increase the size of the planet on the CCD chip and spread the light out so that minimum duration exposures are not saturated.
This implies the further the CCD chip is from the telenegative the greater the increase in focal length.

Despite this attenuation, the signal-to-noise ratio of the CCD data, as determined from reflections of negatively stained catalase crystals, was found to decrease to ~ 50% of that of photographic film data.
As part of this approach, the slow-scan CCD camera is useful to provide an on-line evaluation of the quality of a crystal in terms of crystallinity, flatness and thickness before the tilt data is recorded (Brink and Chiu, 1994).
To compare the CCD performance versus photographic film, we used a 'decay plot' in which the logarithm of reflection amplitudes was plotted against the square of the spatial frequency.

Or imaging a supernova in an obscure 18th-magnitude galaxy.
CCD sensors are made of semiconducting materials such as silicon that have been manufactured to be sensitive to the impact of light hitting their surfaces.
Use of the CCD Autoguider has several advantages over the manual method; in general it is much more precise and error-free than is possible with manual guiding, and, in the case of the Meade Pictor 201XT, the autoguider can guide on guidestars as faint as 12th-magnitude, far fainter than is possible during manual guiding.

 About CCD Technology
With the introduction of Models ST-7 and ST-8 CCD Imaging Cameras, which incorporate two separate CCD detectors, SBIG was able to accomplish the goal of introducing a truly self-guided CCD imaging camera.
They are mounted in close proximity, both focused at the same plane, allowing the imaging CCD to integrate while the PC uses the guiding CCD to correct the telescope.
Using a separate CCD for guiding allows 100% of the primary CCD's active area to be used to collect the image.

Tri-Color CCD Imaging   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
In both instances, an IR rejection filter is needed for the tri-color work due to the fact that these filters are nearly completely transparent in the IR as well as the fact that CCDs have a very high sensitivity to light beyond 700nm where they eye and film are insensitive.
A tri-color shot of a color test chart taken with the KODAK filter set and no minus-IR filter will show the chart as just an array of grey swatches but redoing the same shot with the minus-IR filter will show the chart as the eye would see it if the exposures were properly calibrated.
The process of calibrating using a stellar target is identical to that of using a test target (although one will probably need to use a longer FL and defocus the stellar image in order to get lengthy exposures).
