As CCS progresses, there is a pattern of foreshadowing and dreams that lead to an unusual conclusion.
The manga was translated into English by TOKYOPOP (Formerly Mixx); the characters kept their Japanese names in the translated manga.
This is verified at the end of the manga, but only hinted at in CCS: The 2nd Movie, in the short scene of him and Kaho together when he calls Sakura to warn her of the sealed card.

 UTR#17: Character Encoding Model
Coded character sets are the basic object that both ISO and vendor character encoding committees produce.
Character encoding schemes are relevant to the issue of cross-platform persistent data involving code units wider than a byte, where byte-swapping may be required to put data into the byte polarity canonical for a particular platform.
The C/C++ model is intended to support a byte serialized character set using the char data type, while supporting a character set with a single code unit per character with the wchar_t data type.

A character that is equivalent to a sequence of one or more other characters, according to the decomposition mappings found in the names list of Section 16.1, Character Names List, and those described in Section 3.12, Conjoining Jamo Behavior.

A representation for a single abstract character that consists of a sequence of two 16-bit code units, where the first value of the pair is a high-surrogate code unit, and the second is a low-surrogate code unit.

Note that unconditional and unambiguous conversion in the other direction is not required, in that not all characters may be representable by a given charset and a charset may provide more than one sequence of octets to represent a particular sequence of characters.
Character Encoding Scheme A Character Encoding Scheme (CES) is a mapping from a Coded Character Set or several coded character sets to a set of octets.
All charsets which are constructed as a composition of a CCS and a CES MUST either include the CCS and CES they are based on in their registration or else cite a definition of their CCS and CES that appears elsewhere.

A character set is a group of characters that have been collected together for some purpose.
Character set encodings map a coded character set's values to an octet (a byte) or set of octets.
Characters, character sets, and their encodings are fundamental to text processing.

Since each datasource often defines a proprietary syntax for such relationships, a standard (as far as the CCS Programs are concerned) was needed to move the data reliably to and from any supported data source.
When the CCS Program is run and it sees this "drive.num" file, it will use it to locate the older CCS files and automatically import them for you.
Also you can directly populate the CCS ODBC datasource; however, you must insure the data source is properly defined and populated, and all referential constraints are adhered to.

 Unicode's characters
An abstract character is a unit of textual information such that a sequence of characters defines an abstract text that can be written or recited in various concrete ways all of which are obviously presenting the same underlying text.
If each character in the CCS is only reachable through one unique number and there is only one standard way to split a text into characters, then we also have a well-defined mapping for the reverse operation: each text has one unique encoded representation, very easy to search for.
Unlike any traditional CCS with a regionally limited repertoire, the universal character set (UCS, Unicode, ISO 10646) has been numbering the identified characters of all the world's major languages so that there is a universal agreement which number represents which character and they can all be communicated by e-mail.

 "Character Set" Considered Harmful
Using "character set" rather than something such as character table or even character sequence to denote the functions that maps integers to characters is unfortunate, but it is water under the bridge, and a lot of it by now.
But in practice there are some coded character sets that assign two different numbers to the same character[Lee], and so the inverse is not a function in the general case.
But in practice, characters are encoded using a variety of optimizations of this brute-force approach: code switching techniques, escape sequences, etc. The encoding of a sequence of characters is not, in general, the result of encoding each character independently and then concatenating them.

Plot-wise is the only place CCS loses to some anime, since it's almost possible to describe it in about 4 short sentences, but its thankfully not focused on that: instead, the focus is on the characters and how they progress.
CCS presents us with a cast of "perfect" but at the same time "believable" characters with their own little quirks, weaknesses, likes and dislikes.
Sakura herself is awesome, being a perfect child (no, seriously, she is, it's almost frightening sometimes @.@) but you'll always remember she's a 4th grader due to her infatuation with Yukito, her incessantly teasing older brother, and basically the way she acts; not just because she looks and dresses like a 4th grader.

A character set (more precisely called a "coded character set" or "CCS") is a mapping from a set of abstract characters to a set of integers.

Online Fanfiction: What Technology and Popular Culture Can Teach Us About Writing and Literacy Instruction
For example, young writers create highly complex characters and insert them into the world of CCS, such as one young girl writing in the U.K. who created a younger sibling for Sakura Kinomoto and then posted an intricate genealogy that explains her relationship to other characters.
Most fascinating of all though, is the way that fans take up characters from the animé series and use them to express concerns from their daily lives through writing.
In spite of this diversity, because CCS fans share a love for animé, they come to the activity of reviewing with a shared point of reference, meaning writers can be confident that the general topic of their writing will be known and of interest to the audience.

You can use the CCS G/L structure to enter your G/L numbers even if the structure differs, by simply ignoring the 4-3 structure used by the CCS G/L. During the export process, the CCS Payroll will pad the numbers you enter and reformat to the 4-3 format, for lookup purposes only.

This is a highly limited CCS that does not allow the representation of the all of the characters of the many different languages (like Chinese and Japanese), scientific symbols, or even ancient scripts (runes and hieroglyphics) and music.

Unicode does this as a CCS with a four-dimensional coding space of 128 three-dimensional groups with 94,140 defined character values that is supported with numerous CES methods, the more popular of which, in Linux, is the Unicode transformation format UTF-8.

 Unicode Transformation Formats
As the first and second byte of a double-byte character both use the same {=A1..=FE} range of values, you cannot easily tell the one from the other and recognize the character boundaries in the middle of a long stretch of 8bit bytes.
UTF-8 is a variable-length multibyte encoding which means that you cannot calculate the number of characters from the mere number of bytes and vice versa for memory allocation and that you have to allocate oversized buffers or parse and keep counters.
UTF-8 uses 8bit characters which are still being stripped by many mail gateways because Internet messages were originally defined to be 7bit ASCII only but their number is decreasing as the software of the 1990s tends to be 8bit clean.
