CENELEC is gaining in popularity because the standards provide a structured approach and flexible methodology, and give a standardized way to look at safety systems in.
CENELEC allows for the matching of the safety case concept to all subsystems, results in cross-acceptance for rail systems, and have been transferred to ISO/ IEC standards.
CENELEC only provides detailed requirements for items within the railway control and protection system, so requirements for the safety case from EN 50129 had to be adapted to the requirements of individual systems and technologies.
