CFB BORDEN, Ontario - In 2005 the Canadian government announced its intent to expand the Canadian Forces.
When asked how the environment at CFB Borden effects the teaching of recruits, all of the staff at NRTD heaped praise upon the base.
From the messes, supply, and the training area, CFB Borden has it all for the Recruit Course.

 Canadian Forces Base Borden - Base Recreation - Athletic and Sports Facilities
The Buell Fitness and Aquatic Centre, located in building T-118 on Ramillies Road, is the heart of the CF National Sports Centre.
The Base Borden Golf Complex is comprised of two separate facilities.
The main course is located on the north side of the Base and is known as the Circled Pine Golf Course.

The only vehicle that has made its way to CWM from Borden recently is the Panther A. It was moved in February 2005 prior to CWM's opening.
There is now a fairly impressive display at the entrance to CFB Borden with a Helicopter on plinth, Grizzly and Anchor.
I lived at Camp Borden from 1963 to 1969 (airforce brat) and have many wonderful memories of climbing over the tanks and squeezing through the flat iron lattice they welded on some to keep larger kids out.

 YYZ Airport Watch - Tour of CFB Borden
On Monday August 9th, the YYZ Airport Watch was privileged to visit and receive a tour of CFB Borden.
Many people don't realize that CFB Borden is the birthplace of the Canadian Air Force going back to 1917 when it was known as the Royal Flying Corps.
MWO Marion delivered a very interesting presentation on the history of CFB Borden since its inception in 1917 right up to the present day.

A lodger formation at CFB Borden, 16 Wing is the largest training wing in the Canadian Forces.
It is composed of a headquarters and three schools: the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering (CFSATE), the Air Command Academy (ACA), and the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operations (CFSACO).
Even though 16 Wing is located today in Borden, at the "Birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force," the Wing's history is far removed from that of CFB Borden.

Just looking at these photos again makes me want to go back to Camp Borden during the week and try to gain access to the Weapons Vault.

 Corporal William Oliver Pearson, Building, Camp Borden
In February 1969 during the early integration period it was amalgamated with the Royal Canadian Signal Corp. School and was known as Canadian Forces School of Communications.
On 1 June 1970, the School moved to CFB Borden and joined the CF Aircraft Trade School to become the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace and Ordnance Engineering.
Corporal William Oliver Pearson, BC(NL), was honoured by the craftsmen at the Canadian Forces School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at CFB Borden on November 25, 1994 when the new welding training facility was opened bearing his name.

The building that is often referred to as the "Air Museum" in Borden is in fact the Air Force Annex to the Base Borden Military Museum (BBMM).
Since the 1990's, there is only one official museum at CFB Borden, and that is the BBMM.

 MP Tilson visits CFB Borden
David Tilson, MP for Dufferin-Caledon, visited Canadian Forces Base Borden, July 24, to participate in "ExecuTrek," through the Canadian Forces Liaison Council.
ExecuTrek is a trip to a military base or unit to observe members of Canada's Reserve Force in action and provides participants with the opportunity to speak directly with the reservists and better appreciate their unique skills.
During his visit to CFB Borden, Tilson toured CFB Borden units and observed reservists; visited range and training areas; participated in a confidence course challenge; viewed a Leopard tank, and experienced a ride in a personnel carrier.
