CFB Cold Lake, also referred to as 4 Wing Cold Lake and formerly known as RCAF Station Cold Lake, is a Canadian air force base.
There is also a lake called Cold Lake that is part of the homeland area that belongs to the members of the Cold Lake First Nations.

Construction of what would become known as RCAF Station Cold Lake began in 1952 at the height of the Cold War after the site in Alberta's "Lakeland District" was chosen by the Royal Canadian Air Force for the country's premier air weapons training base.
Personnel arrived at Cold Lake on March 31, 1954 with operations at RCAF Station Cold Lake beginning that day.
During the 1980s, CFB Cold Lake was thrust into the international media spotlight when CLAWR was used as the target for testing of the newly-developed AGM-86 air launched cruise missiles by the USAF.

Cold lake is far more likely, there isn't very much of an air of secrecy around Suffield, and when training is underway there, it is usually posted in the local newspapers to warn people not to pick up any stray ammunition as it is live.

After CFB Cold Lake was established as a weapons training base in 1954, members of NATO were invited to participate in training exercises.
The exceptional facilities provided at Cold Lake— the very large area to fly over, the European topography, and the use of over 600 targets—made it one of the most desirable locations for fighter pilots to train.
Such facilities as CFB Cold Lake have been critical to Canada's contributions to NATO, and have allowed for Canada and the RCAF to continue to play an important role within the organization.

While 433 Squadron was formed at CFB Bagotville in Quebec, 434 Squadron was formed at CFB Cold Lake.
However, 434 was later moved to CFB Chatham, New Brunswick and 419 served at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta.
In June of 1999, 748 was repainted with 434's markings on the airplane as they were when it served with the Squadron at CFB Chatham in the early 1980's.

Until recently, the CF-5 was used by the Canadian Forces as a lead-in fighter trainer at Cold Lake, whereas the CF-18 continues as Canada's operational fighter Aircraft, though in reduced numbers.

In 1993, all Base Flight CT133s at CFB Cold Lake were absorbed by 417 Combat Support Squadron.
Originally deployed to Europe as an instrument proficiency trainer for Sabre pilots in 1953, the CT-133 was also used as a simulated bomber for interceptor practice, an aggressor for air-to-air training and a parts hauler when other jets broke down away from home.
The CT-133 seen here was readily identifiable as coming from CFB Cold Lake, or the "Cool Pool", and was in fact overflying the flight line at the base.

The jets at Moose Jaw and Cold Lake carry the same colour scheme to allow fleet rotation between the two bases without the need to repaint the jets for the two different training roles and to ensure that the strength at CFB Cld Lake is maintained.
