Later in 2002, 413 Squadron at CFB Greenwood saw its CH-113 Labrador helicopters replaced by the new CH-149 Cormorant, a version of the infamous EH-101 helicopter, long-opposed by the Liberal Party of Canada.
Together with CFB Gander and CFB Goose Bay, CFB Greenwood is presently being used as a forward deployment base for CF-188 Hornet fighter/interceptor aircraft rotating in from CFB Bagotville as part of NORAD's post-9/11 response to concerns about civilian airline security along North America's east coast.

Greenwood was settled in 1770 and incorporated as a village in 1961.
It was primarily a farming community, but the establishment of CFB Greenwood in the early 1940's brought a large influx of people bringing the current population in excess of 7821 people.
Today, CFB Greenwood, home of the Aurora aircraft on the Eastcoast, is one of the largest airforce based in the Canadian Forces with nearly 2,500 service and civilian personnel.

CFB Greenwood in the Annapolis Valley is operated by 14 Wing and is home to Maritime Patrol squadrons operating CP-140 Aurora (and CP-140A Arcturus variety) patrol aircraft, and also to a search and rescue/transport squadron operating CC-130 Hercules fixed wing aircraft and the new Cormorant helicopter.
CFB Halifax is primarily the home to Canada's east coast navy and hosts the operational and support fleet.
The former CFB Shearwater is now a component of the Halifax base and a unit called 12 Wing operates the air base, primarily hosting operational and training naval helicopter squadrons using the CH-124 Sea King helicopter.

Though Air Cadets trained in Greenwood as early as 1942, it wasn't until 1951 that Greenwood was officially consolidated as the summer training location for Air Cadets from the Atlantic Region.
The Atlantic Region Air Cadet Camp, as it was known then, occupied the area of the present day cadet complex at CFB Greenwood in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.
To commemorate this milestone, a new crest was adopted to replace the crest that had been in use since the early 80’s but never officially approved, as it was not in the “official” format.

Greenwood - Military officials are preparing for a sudden influx of ethnic Albanian refugees who could begin arriving at this Annapolis Valley air force base as early as this weekend.
CFB Greenwood will be one of two Canadian entry points for 5,000 refugees fleeing their war-torn homeland of Kosovo, the federal government announced Wednesday.
It is expected the refugees will arrive 300 at a time, be processed by Canadian health and immigration officials and moved as quickly as possible to more permanent housing arrangements at Ontario and Quebec bases.

CFB GREENWOOD, N.S. - Canada's 15 Cormorant helicopters have been limited to search-and-rescue and test flights after cracks were discovered in one of the helicopters.
Military officials made the decision on Saturday after they found cracks on a tail rotor on a helicopter at CFB Gander in Newfoundland.
Cormorants also fly out of CFB Trenton in Ontario, CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia and from Comox, B.C. The Cormorants were restricted to search-and-rescue missions in late 2003 and in February after leaks in a fuel line were discovered.

The 75 acre campground was purchased by RCAF Station Greenwood in 1958, to be used as a morale and welfare facility for serving airmen/women and officers.

GREENWOOD, N.S. (CP) - A defence contractor has recommended the military further investigate several dump sites a former soldier claims contained so many toxins he became sick with cancer.
Coleman, who has suffered from bowel, prostate and skin cancer, went to the training camp with the contractors to point out where he thought the burial site was located.
Coleman decided to come forward with his claims after consulting doctors and hearing about allegations of toxic exposure at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick.
