Few individuals in the history of Canadian television have inspired as much controversy as John Bassett, a founder of Toronto station CFTO and key figure in the formation of the CTV network, Canada's first privately-owned television network.
With its prime-time schedule filled with American imports, CFTO was soon accused of reneging on its promises during the license hearings to promote Canadian content.
CFTO went on the air on 1 January 1961 and by the early 1970s was extremely profitable.

I've had an e-mail conversation this week with someone at CFTO (great guy), outlining a non-psip issue that I discovered during a web-search, and he said their engineers are investigating.
Well, it may be a coincidence, but I'm getting CFTO reliably for the first time as of yesterday (might have been sooner, that's just when I checked).
I am getting CFTO perfectly well now I haven't tried for a few weeks but it is perfect now....

The Liberals plan to start giving $300 million from the gas tax to municipalities, beginning in October, CFTO said.
A half cent will be added each year for the next two years to bring the total to $300 million annually.
How the gas tax money will be divided up will be decided this summer in meetings between the government and the cities, CFTO said.
