 First Cormorant for Canada is Flying
Cormorant used for the flight display, serial 149901, made its maiden flight 5 February and, after a stage in Vergiate to train crews and personnel, February next year it will be shipped to Canada.
At the Agusta plants in Vergiate (Italy) the first EH Industries Cormorant was officially exhibited in flight, 31 May 2000.
For the occasion, also the second Cormorant destined to Canada was on display.

 DND/CF : News Release : Hoist Modifications to Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Helicopter Well Underway
The modifications are the result of recommendations made by Air Force personnel during testing and evaluation of the CH-149 Cormorant shortly after the first helicopter was delivered in the fall of 2001.
The Cormorant has been flying SAR missions since July 2002 and recent missions have demonstrated that the aircraft has the range and hardiness needed for Canada's vast ocean approaches and extreme weather conditions.
In December 2002, a Cormorant flew 1600 kilometres in gale force conditions to rescue an injured Norwegian sailor.

CFB WINNIPEG — The Air Force has limited its fleet of 15 Cormorant helicopters to search and rescue (SAR) operations only until more details are known about the March 30th crash of a Royal Navy Merlin Mk1 helicopter.
“Although the Merlin and the Cormorant are employed in very different roles, I believe that it is prudent to limit our operations until more details surrounding the Merlin's crash are known,” he said.
This ongoing inspection is being done as a precautionary measure based on preliminary information about the Merlin incident and previous concerns with deficiencies in some of the Cormorant tail rotor half hub assemblies.

AgustaWestland has produced an improved tail-rotor hub for Canada's CH-149 Cormorant (EH101) search-and-rescue (SAR) helicopter fleet in an effort to solve a cracking problem that has severely restricted operations and kept fleet availability at about 50% for the past nine months.
