CIVT has done its newscasts from the PNE for the last several years, going back to its VTV days.
Interestingly, the helicopter featured in the news open is actually the chopper of sister station CFTO Toronto (as evidenced by the Toronto Star logo underneath the CTV logo).
Now the station had started using a generic CTV local news open (which is also used on CKCK Regina), and a lonesome CTV logo now resides in the lower right corner as a bug.
No figures for the other time slots were available in the column; however, in an interview with TV Week 2 weeks ago, CIVT late night anchor Mi-jung Lee mentioned that CIVT ranked a close second behind News Hour Final on Global, separated only by 1 rating point.
CIVT also saw its numbers higher from the previous year, with an increase of about 5%; and while its numbers in the 18yrs+ category is lower than that of CHEK's, it actually has a higher rating among viewers 25-54yrs than CHEK.
Speaking of CHEK, its number dropped by about 10% in the 18yrs+ category, while its Island counterpart CIVI experienced an increase of about 27%, although the actual distance separating the 2 is still quite substantial.
When Baton Broadcasting's CIVT came on the air, CHEK was one of three stations broadcasting CTV programming, the other two being BCTV and CIVT, CHEK being the only one in BC showing Canada AM.
As a result, Sophie Lui returned from Global BC and joined CIVT's former Victoria bureau chief Ed Watson as the pair became the station's main anchors.
