CKNX, A-Channel Wingham (formerly known as The New NX) is a television station owned by CHUM Limited which serves mid-western Ontario.
CKNX operations continued as such (with various temporary offices set up in Wingham) until they purchased new equipment and moved into a new building in 1963.
CKNX disaffiliated from the CBC in 1988 and remained an independent station for another ten years until CHUM Limited purchased the station from Baton Broadcasting.

CKNX moved to 920 kcs on the dial in 1941, increased power to 1,000 watts in 1942, and 2,500 watts in 1959.
On March 1, 1971, CKNX Radio along with Television was sold to The Blackburn Group of London, with long experience in broadcasting and newspapers.
In 1975, the music format for CKNX AM was changed from the traditional country and western sound to Modern Country, appealing to a wider audience and known as Country Music 920.

During the difficult economic times of the late 1920's and early '30's, Doc couldn't afford to buy enough broadcast recordings to fill his air time so he invited local talent to come to the studio and entertain on the air.
Included were excerpts from the CKNX Saturday Night Travelling Barn Dance staged earlier at the Howick Community Centre.

 CKNX Barn Dance
At the initiative of W.T. 'Doc' Cruickshank, owner of CKNX and also a fiddler, barn dances began in the CKNX studio in the early 1930s.
By the late 1940s three bands were associated with the show: the CKNX Ranch Boys (led by Don and Cora Robertson), the Golden Prairie Cowboys, and the CKNX Barn Dance Gang (featuring Earl Heywood).
Though the barndance went off the air in 1963, it was revived on several occasions and was remounted by CKNX on a bi-annual basis in the Wingham area in 1983.

The long drive south began with several stops in and around Wingham, a very small town that just happens to be in a central spot in southwest Ontario, which is why CKNX radio, and later TV, settled there.

During a radio broadcast of CKNX Wingham, where I was billed as the, "Resident Psychic" a lady called in with (her voice seemed to have a trembling sound) and asked a question relating to her employment.
I responded very quickly saying that the situation would clear up to her satisfaction within two weeks and that everything was being looked after.
Life was so unbearable that she was considering leaving the company and was about to make that decision when she idly turned on the radio to CKNX and listened to the messages being given during the Psychic program.
