But the mandated sale of CKVU didn't happen by the end of 2000 and, since the new year, the station has been placed into a trust arrangement managed by Winnipeg-based Bud Sherman and a board of six.
With the local market in a state of flux a year ago, the CRTC approved a one-year "administrative renewal" of CKVU's licence so that it could participate in the multi-station renewal hearings that begin April 17 in Hull, QC, says Michelle Edge, senior regional officer for the CRTC in Vancouver.

CKVU (Citytv Vancouver) is a Canadian television station based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
On July 12, 2006, it was announced that Bell Globemedia would acquire CHUM Limited and its assets, including CKVU and the Citytv family, subject to CRTC approval.
There is talk about the CTV affiliation moving from CIVT to CKVU for the fall of 2007, which would improve CTV coverage across British Columbia, because CIVT (the current CTV station) only has one transmitter.

"CKVU is a very important acquisition for CHUM and we are delighted to have someone of Brad’s experience take the helm," said Jay Switzer.
Brad will work closely with Moses Znaimer, President and creator of CHUM’s successful Toronto local television station Citytv, in turning CKVU into the unique brand of intensely local, participatory and culturally diverse television experience for which CHUM is known.
CKVU broadcasts to Vancouver, the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, serving Canada's second largest English speaking market, 24-hours a day, seven days a week on Cable 13, Channel 10 in the Greater Vancouver area.

Global has sold its old station, CKVU, but the CRTC still has not given its approval for that purchase by CHUM Television.
CKVU is currently being operated in trust and will lose its prime programming to Global properties BCTV and CHEK.
CKVU's new programming reflects a youthful format similar to other CHUM stations, such as Citytv in Toronto, VR in Barrie, RO in Ottawa and PL in London, with such programming as Blind Date, Temptation Island, Relic Hunter and Sex TV.

And apparently, enough viewers were wondering whether or not CKVU still had ties with CanWest (or the station was so concerned about its reputation) that this Dave Gerry segment was aired, proclaiming that such ties no longer existed, while reiterating that the station will become Citytv.
At the end of the promo Moses and the rest of the party raised their glasses (and bottles of beer, it looks like) for Citytv.
Since Spring 2003, CKVU has started airing a short open in lieu of a full-length open (although, putting it in perspective, the station really just reverted to the old ways of the "Global News"/"ckvu News" era).

The broadcaster, as a condition of its purchase of wic's television assets, must now find a buyer by Dec. 29 and file an application with the commission to approve the transfer by March 9, 2001.
In addition, CanWest has to put ckvu in a commission-approved trust arrangement starting Dec. 30 since it has not yet been able to conclude a deal with another broadcaster.
But because nobody knows whether there will be a new multicultural channel in the market next year, potential ckvu purchasers are taking a wait-and-see approach, says Global Communications president and ceo Gerry Noble.

While media buyers do not expect CityPulse to draw an appreciably bigger audience than the old CKVU newscast enjoyed a year ago, it will draw a different audience and perhaps bring new viewers to news programming.

CHUM Television which owns the station as well as CKVU in Vancouver, 6 other local stations across Canada, 30 radio stations and 18 specialty television channels, estimates that they will cut $1.4 million annually from their investment in local programming in Victoria.
It was CHUM that promised that it would invest in a distinctive voice in Victoria when it won the license over competing bids such as Craig Broadcasting.
When CHUM acquired CKVU (Channel 13) in Vancouver, they claimed they would maintain their investment in Victoria and won an exemption from the "one company, one market, one station" rules.

Citytv - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most commonly it refers to a system of five English language television stations in Canada which use that brand, all owned by CHUM, although the name has also been licensed to stations outside Canada.
The Canadian stations (CITY in Toronto, CKVU in Vancouver, CHMI in Winnipeg, CKAL in Calgary and CKEM in Edmonton) are treated as independent stations which share common branding and some common programming, and not as a television network.
Moses Znaimer, who developed the original format, once described the system's philosophy by saying, "It's not the show, it's the flow."
