	The Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation
		It was soon determined that the radiation was diffuse, emanated unifromly from all directions in the sky, and had a temperature of approximately 3 Kelvin (2.73K).
		Initially, the two young scientists were berefit of a satisfactory explanation for their observations, and considered the possibility that the CMB may have been due to some undetermined systematic noise.
		Usually the features of the Universe and the CMB are interpreted in the context of a cosmological model - The Big Bang - which is derived from general cosmological principles and observations.

	CMB Map Lab
		This lab involves using maps of the CMB to estimate the curvature of space.
		The CMB is light which comes to us from the "surface of the cosmic fireball".

		In fact the CMB spectrum is a fl body to better than 1% accuracy over more than a factor of 1000 in wavelength.
		By the early 1970's it became clear that the CMB sky is hotter in one direction and cooler in the opposite direction, with the temperature difference being a few mK (or about 0.1% of the overall temperature).

		The CMB is composed of a bath of photons which were emitted following the big bang when the universe was still extremely hot and dense - so hot and dense that all the matter and radiation was bound together in a photon-baryon fluid.

		The average temperature of this radiation is 2.725 K as measured by the FIRAS instrument on the COBE satellite.
