CML is often considered accelerated when your blasts are between 10 percent and 30 percent.
For CML to occur the "abl" gene (named after a researcher named Abelson) comes unglued from its usual location on chromosome #9, and sticks itself to the "bcr" (breakpoint cluster region) of chromosome #22, thus creating the bcr-abl hybrid.
The third phase of CML after chronic and accelerated phases, characterized by the presence of increasing numbers of highly immature blood cells ("blasts" or "myeloblasts") in the blood and marrow, usually more than 30 percent.

 Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML)
Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML; also known as chronic myeloid leukemia or chronic granulocytic leukemia) is a cancer of the blood system in which too many white blood cells (WBCs) are made in the bone marrow.
In CML, the translocation occurs between chromosomes 9 and 22 (human DNA is packaged in 23 pairs of chromosomes) and produces a new, abnormal gene called BCR-ABL.
CML is divided into three phases depending on the maturity of the leukemia WBCs.

CML Support: Most Comprehensive Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Information
When you have CML, your body's marrow — the spongy stuff inside your bones that produces all of your blood cells — sort of goes haywire and produces too many white blood cells, causing a variety of complications.
Unlike other cancers, CML is not a solid tumor, and thus the cancer cannot be surgically removed.
Both CML and this type of ALL are caused by a break in the so-called Philadelphia chromosome.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a cancer of the blood-producing cells of the bone marrow (the spongy, red tissue in the inner part of the large bones) that primarily results in an increase in the number of white blood cells (cells that normally fight infection).
CML is also sometimes called chronic granulocytic, chronic myelocytic, or chronic myelogenous leukemia and makes up about 9% of all new cases of leukemia.
People with CML have an acquired genetic abnormality or mutation in their bone marrow cells in which one chromosome (a long strand of genes) breaks off and reattaches to another chromosome.

CML is an acquired disorder with no specific, known etiologic agent although radiation exposure does significantly increase the risk.
In the case of infection, however, the white blood cell count is not usually as elevated as it is in the case of CML, slenomegaly is absent, the leukocyte alkaline phosphatase is increased and the Philadelphia chromosome is not present.

 MPD-NET.CML-FAQ: Myeloproliferative Disorders
CML is shorthand for chronic myeloid, chronic myelocytic or chronic myelogenous leukemia (also known as chronic granulocytic leukemia or cgl) CML is a form of leukemia which affects the cells which make granulocytes (the polymorphs that eat bacteria) and the platelets (the little cells which help the blood to clot).
This situation may continue for 3 or 4 years (known as chronic phase) and the disease may be unsuspected with the diagnosis made incidentally in the course of an insurance examination or a pre-anesthetic work-up.
CML is generally considered in patients with an elevation in blood granulocyte concentration if the explanations of infection and inflammation aren't likely.

CML is a clonal disorder that is usually easily diagnosed because the leukemic cells of more than 95% of patients have a distinctive cytogenetic abnormality, the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph1).
Accelerated-phase CML is characterized by 10% to 19% blasts in either the peripheral blood or bone marrow.
Patients older than 60 years with chronic phase CML have a hematologic and cytogenetic response rate and duration of cytogenetic response similar to that in younger patients; however, the incidence of complications is greater in elderly patients.
