CONCACAF organizes international competition in a number of events, including the Champions' Cup, qualifying tournaments for all FIFA competitions and the Gold Cup.
The 2000 Gold Cup was perhaps the most surprising, with Canada taking home their first major international title as the U.S. and Mexico failed to qualify for the semifinals.
In early 2001, the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS claimed the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup title, but were unable to represent the region at the 2001 FIFA World Cup Championship that summer when the tournament was canceled by FIFA.

The Voyageurs: Canadian Soccer Supporters - Any chance of representation in Champions Cup?
The only possible argument from CONCACAF might be that the Voyageurs is not a true competition and that we don't have a true league.
Now I'm sure if Cup matchs were tied to the CONCACAF Champions Cup they'd be the best draws of the season for every Canadian side that could enter the tourny, but I don't think anybody other than maybe Montreal wouldn't think long and very hard about the added expenses of such an adventure.
However, CONCACAF would place the Canadian rep. at the very early preliminary rounds and other clubs such as Mexico and USA would come into play in later rounds, therefore, it would get costly, of course, but Saputo can afford it.

The CONCACAF Champions' Cup is the annual international football competition held in the CONCACAF region which comprises North America and the Caribbean.
Although similar to better known competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and the Copa Libertadores, the Champions Cup is not nearly as important, and is not taken nearly as seriously by its competitors, as these competitions.
One significant reason for this is that, whereas the Champions League offers clubs huge financial rewards, and the Copa Libertadores is not insignificant, teams receive little money for their participation in the Cup.
