In the focus. The CCPR experts' actual comments   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
The CPRF is until now the organization of the nomenclatural officials, which missed the re-division of the soviet property.
The last moves of the Presidential Administration, directed towards the ousting of the CPRF on the periphery of the political process, are only the "artillerist preparation" for the decisive clash on the eve of the Duma's elections.
As the result, the CPRF becomes the protector of the worth, which are more clear and desirable for more educated and Centrist oriented electors, than for the average statistical supporter of the Communistic Party.

 Weekly Worker 317 Thursday December 16 1999
The history of the CPRF in its present form began in February 1993, with the election of Gennadiy Andreyevich Zyuganov to the post of chairman of the central executive committee, in the process beating Valentin Kuptsov, a left social democrat candidate for the post.
The first defining moment for the CPRF came in October 1993, when the long-standing confrontation between Yeltsin and the duma culminated in the shelling of the White House by tanks and the collapse of the opposition led by Ruslan Khasbulatov and former Russian vice-president Aleksander Rutskoi.
At the same time, the CPRF conducted its election campaign in such a way as to guarantee that independent, revolutionary leftists were denied ant possibility of success, even though that meant ensuring that Yeltsin and Chernomyrdin supporters gained the victory in the constituencies concerned.

The CPRF won the Krasnodar region, the largest, with 82 percent of the vote.

Communists, CPRF Central Committee Letter to Party Members ~ Johnson's Russia List 6-12-02
In these conditions the 6th Plenary Session of the CC of the CPRF on April 3 this year adopted a principled decision that Communists and their allies should abandon the positions of the heads of thosel committees, which still belonged to us, and also the position of the Chairman of the State Duma.
The CPRF cannot allow the development of the illness, which became one of the main reasons of destruction of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union - a split of the high-ranking Party officials from the rest of the party.
Presidium of the CPRF Central Committee calls on all the Communists to strengthen the organisational and ideological unity of the Party, to broaden the Party ranks, to create new structures, to explain to the people the essence of developments in the State Duma and in the country as a whole.

The "alternative" CPRF chairman is Vladimir Tikhonov, governor of the Ivanovo region in European Russia and rarely thought of as a party heavyweight.
The alternativshchiks are now petitioning the Ministry of Justice to deregister the real CPRF in favour of their "alternative." Given that they have better friends in higher places than Zyuganov, it is quite possible that they will succeed.
When the CPRF expelled Gennady Seleznyov, a senior and well-liked party official who had become much too close to the regime in his capacity as speaker of the State Duma, his new Rebirth of Russia Party proved a total flop.

 East European Constitutional Review
The CPRF, while gaining credibility as a genuine opposition force, is hardly able, with its restorationist rhetoric, to attract enough supporters and electoral allies to expand beyond its core of backward-looking, protest-voting members.
Yabloko, which had once competed with CPRF for social-democratic voters, has drifted steadily rightward since the August 1998 crisis, and especially after its electoral debacle in 1999, a shift that was recently institutionalized by its accession to the Liberal International, a worldwide association of such middle-of-the-road parties as the Liberal Party of Canada.
Some observers have linked the attack on both the CPRF and the increasing unipolarity of parliamentary politics (anticipating the new electoral cycle) with the unexpected emergence of Boris Yeltsin from the shadow of retirement with a flurry of public activities and political commentary.

 Open Letter to CPRF
At the IV plenum of the Central Committee of the CPRF, held on February 14, 1996, comrade U.P. Belov, secretary of the Leningrad joint committee, member of the Central Committee of the CPRF, proposed that a resolution be adopted at the V plenum, slated for April, regarding organizational and political unity of the party.
It is understandable that the CPRF is compelled to work in conditions that are qualitatively different from those during the civil war and during the time of the turn towards a new economic policy, when the resolution of the X congress was accepted regarding the "Unity of the Party", (March, 1921).
The differences in the CPRF are constantly nourished today by the multi-party system of the Russian communist movement and by the lack of desire of the party leadership to put an end to this situation by using flexible and definite actions of solidarity.

 Russia in Turmoil
The picture one gets of the CPRF is that of a numerically large party led by that wing of the bureaucracy that gained nothing from the Reform and finds itself marginalised, and tries to lean on the working class for support, while manoeuvring with the tops of the state and particularly the army.
However, the CPRF is only serious mass party that could act as a point of reference in the struggle against the nascent bourgeoisie.
Bear in mind that, like the CPRF, this was mainly composed of the remnants of the old state bureaucratic structure, though it also experienced a purge and a partial renovation with the entry of new elements.

A series of regional CPRF conferences has overwhelmingly rejected this maneuver, with fewer than 10 per cent of party organizations backing calls for a change of leadership.
Zyuganov, addressing the CPRF congress, accused Semigin and his cronies of wanting to “deprive the party of its social-class character — in essence, to liquidate it as the representative of the oppressed masses and of the progressive tendencies of social development.”

June 1999: Stalinist CAmpaign to impeach Yeltsin-Just Hot Air
The CPRF organ, Pravda Rossii (May 19-26), had published a ringing defense of Primakov's economic record before the May 19 vote, despite the fact that his tenure did not mark any change whatever in the basic economic policy of capitalist restoration.
But that means rejecting capitalist restoration and breaking from the world capitalist financial institutions, for which the CPRF, which claims to defend the "socialist heritage" of the USSR, lacks the courage, the honesty, and the program.
Yeltsin's mid-May "miracle in the Duma" shows the uselessness of the CPRF and other such neo-Stalinist forces to resist capitalist restoration and the subordination to imperialism that it involves.

 CPRF Is Camouflaging Its Opportunism
In all of its work and existence the CPRF is promoting an opportunistic line, working and cooperating inside the capitalist system and with the present regime, and bringing up their slogan that "the limits for a revolution has been exhausted" and only a parliamentary road is the answer.
Mass work amongst the masses is only needed by the CPRF in order to mask their desire to get re-elected to the Russian Duma and, more of them that get elected the better, in order to get some minor concessions, while getting their good pay and perks as members of the Duma.
The CPRF is proceeding to try and make inroads and capital for their opportunistic program by building up the importance of Russian ethnicity, statehood and agreeing with the build-up of the present Russian bourgeoisie and imperialism, taking lessons from the former Tsar’s policies.
