Projector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Projectors are used for displaying an image on a projection screen or similar surface for the view of an audience.
Ceiling projector or cloud searchlight, used to measure the base of cloud heights
Projector was also the name of a version control system developed by Apple Computer as part of the Macintosh Programmer's Workshop software development system.

CRT projector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A CRT projector is a video projector that uses a small, high-brightness CRT (or picture tube) as the image generating element.
Most modern CRT projectors are colour and have three separate CRTs (instead of a single, colour CRT), and their own lenses to achieve colour images.
The red, green and blue portions of the incoming video signal are processed and sent to the respective CRTs whose images are focused by their lenses to achieve the overall picture on the screen.

These bolts tilt the CRT face in relation to the rear lens element (there are two more bolts on the left side of the lens, out of the field of view in the photo).
By tilting the CRT face in relation to the lens, all parts of the image can be in focus on the screen, even though the lens is pointed at vertical and horizontal angles to the screen.
CRT color drift can be 300 K in ten minutes, so even though the color balance is adjusted using standards, you still might have to touch it up from time to time.

 CRT Mount
I've been living with a CRT projector for a few months now, and I can say that the picture produced by one of these babies is phenomenal.
CRT projectors are made of three cathode ray picture tubes, like those in regular TV's but with really long "necks", and a different color phosphor on each tube.
CRT projectors are really designed for ceiling mount, on the floor they can get bumped, and the optimum position for the projector is usually the same as the optimal seating location, so something has to move.

CRT Projector Primer/FAQ   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
I have had CRT projectors that came from railroad control centers with little railroad tracks permanently burned into the face of the tube, which are then projected along with the video image you are trying to view.
Analog convergence is found on older or entry level projectors, and typically consist of 30 to 50 controls under the cover of the projector to align the geometry and convergence of the unit.
Each CRT projector model has what is known as a 'sweet spot', depending on the tube size and construction, as well as the quality of the internal circuitry.

Crystal View 2 CRT Video Projector reviewed on AudioRevolution.com
CRT’s of the past were (rightfully, in many cases) dubbed “maintenance nightmares” because of the need to continually adjust the convergence and other settings.
While this projector comes with the complete installation package included in its price, its stability was quite notable as compared to other CRT projectors I have owned in the past.
CRT projectors do require touch-up convergences and, unless you opt for a $1,900 ACON system (which automatically converges your projector), you will want to be able to do them yourself every few weeks without having to call a local dealer.

DVD Verdict: High Performance Home Theater On A Budget: Buying A Used CRT Projector
Be aware, though, that on some projectors, the hour meter is pretty easy to reset—a dishonest seller can reset the hour meter, run it for a while, and then hawk it as a low-hour unit at a premium price.
Projectors that have color filtered or color corrected lenses will have better color performance and be closer to SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) standards.
Some higher end projectors might feature liquid coupled optics, in which there is a liquid medium that couples the CRT output to the lens.

In a CRT the phosphors are on the inside of the front glass and are excited by a beam of light from the cathode-ray.
Most LCD projectors today have a fixed keystone factor (allowing the projector to be placed at about an 8-degree angle lower or higher than the center of the screen), but many allow you to adjust keystoning.

A: No, when the projector is turned off but still plugged into the mains the power supply fans will run at low speed but the hour counter does not run.
The hour counter does run when the projector is is picture mute mode (Standby on the remote), however it is not recommended to leave the projector in this mode for extended periods of time.
Doing this can help when the projector is going to run multiple scan rates, rather than a list of recall memories consisting of only horizontal and vertical frequencies you will have a list of descriptions as well.

Ultimate AV: Madrigal Imaging MP-9 CRT projector
The MP-9 is one of the most expensive 9-inch CRT projectors on the market (its smaller sibling, the MP-8, is equipped with 8-inch tubes).
Granted, top-rung CRT projectors still exceed the alternatives in every video quality except peak brightness, but the competition is closing in fast.
Madrigal is hedging its bets a bit by also marketing a D-ILA projector, but the Madrigal folks also know that their customers want the best—if they have the resources and don't need a huge screen, they'll opt for the CRT.

CRT Projector Calibration - One of the characteristics of CRT analog video projectors is that CRT's last a very long time however; the light output very slowly diminishes and the colors slowly drift from accurate to murky and unnatural looking.
Also once we've set the CRT voltages at the proper levels the focusing ability of each CRT will be maintained or improved and light output will be right where it should be so as to maintain proper phosphor wear therein prolonging the life of the CRT's.

I was hoping to use a fresnel lens as a field lens to converge the image onto the rear element of the objective lens (crt lens).
I can get the fresnel to converge the image into the rear element of the lens, but it's like the CRT lens has a condensor lens at the rear element that is designed to bring in the whole image of the CRT face.
But, if I remove the fresnel lens, and put the CRT lens up close to the LCD panel, I can easily project the image that is with it's field of view, and project it across the room in very good detail.

Ultimate AV: Elite Video EV-4600 CRT projector
The evolution of three-gun CRT projectors began with an idea from visionary Henry Kloss, who, legend has it, created the best-selling Large Advent loudspeaker in the 1960s simply to fund research on his new-fangled video-projection system.
Because the projector has only this type of input, an external video processor or scaler is necessary.

Need a permanent install - CRT's require the Red, green and blue tube to be perfectly aligned so that there is no colour leakage on the screen creating a uniform picture, movement will put the tubes out of alignment requiring reconvergence.
Picture is typically not as bright as modern LCD/DLP projectors and those CRT projectors will generally require total light control and sometimes a high(er) gain screen to achieve a decent picture.
Set up includes mechanical alignment (ensuring projector is 100% square on to the screen), focus and convergence of the tubes.
