SLIP, CSLIP and PPP are three protocols that may be used to connect to the Internet via a modem connection.
CSLIP (Compressed SLIP) is essentially the same as SLIP, with efficiencies that decrease the amount of extraneous information that is present in the SLIP protocol.
Although SLiRP supports the use of SLIP and CSLIP, it is recommended that PPP be used as it is a more robust and reliable protocol.

 PPP Setup for WIU
For a REAL internet access via a modem, a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) is a much better (and slightly faster!) option to using SLIP, or CSLIP (compressed-SLIP.) This is NOT my opinion, but the undisputed truth.
The reason is that ppp uses larger data packets, so a fewer number of distinct packets are really sent (keep in mind, though, the same amount of actual data) PPP packet headers are actually larger than CSLIP headers, but because of the larger packets of PPP, the speed is actually better than CSLIP.
Also, if part of a PPP packet is "bad", ppp doesn't resend the ENTIRE packet - it only has to re-transmit a segment of the packet that didn't checkout.
