		Full implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) is an expensive transition for the Member States of the Community, from separateness to togetherness; a truth that is imperative for all stakeholders to comprehend.
		The process of creating the CSME, therefore, includes establishing Regional institutions whose purpose is to assist the organs of the Community administer the CSME in the same manner in which national statutory bodies assist ministries to carry out certain functions at the local level.
		The CSME is an innovative model for the Caribbean which, for many CARICOM nationals and political leaders, alike, presents challenges for the preservation of sovereignty and the threat of competition.

		Some of the CARICOM countries that have been heavily promoting the CSME agreement consider The Bahamas to be aloof to the region.

		The anniversary of membership of the CSME is not likely to be commemorated in future years, but it is an anniversary which could turn out to be second only in importance to Independence Day.

		More importantly, discussions on the Cayman Islands’ participation in the CSME seemed to be shied away from, as most people believe there is little advantage to be gained for a country such as Cayman by full integration with CSME.
		Most of the Banks contacted were also at a loss as to who in their institution would be the person to speak on CSME with regard to being an operator in the financial sector in the Caribbean and the possible benefits or drawbacks of the CSME.

	The Nassau Guardian - MPs cool towards CSME
		On his arrival in Nassau on Sunday on a two-day mission to press the case for CSME, Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur acknowledged that the Bahamas' reservations on the free movement of people were "powerful and cannot be ignored," and that some special considerations may have to be made.
		Arthur, the principal spokesman for the CSME, fielded questions on potential benefits the Bahamas could expect to receive from acceding to the agreement.
		All in all, Senator Turnquest said, the FNM would support The Bahamas' entry into the CSME on the grounds that "the country is granted reservations in several of its institutional and legal provisions."
