CSRG is interdisciplinary in its nature; its membership includes academic staff from the Department of Computer Science (DCS) in the Faculty of Arts and Science, from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, and from other departments and faculties.
Membership in CSRG is open to faculty of the University of Toronto who wish to conduct research related to computer systems and their applications.
Researchers and graduate students associated with CSRG are advancing the state-of-the-art in a number of knowledge-based, information-driven disciplines in the pursuit of basic and applied research goals.

Like many later projects later in the century that sacrificed quality for quantity, the firearm itself had often noted performance issues though it did have many features that would become more common, such as a pistol grip and select-fire.
In comparison to the BAR, the CSRG was a few pounds heavier, but was cheaper and had a integrated bipod.
Unlike much heavier air-cooled and water-cooled machine guns (such as the various Maxim models), the CSRG was not meant for pro-longed fires.

Computer Systems Research Group (CSRG)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-02)
The Computer Systems Research Group (CSRG) is an organization at the interface between the departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto.
CSRG was founded in 1968 when the Chairmen of these two departments (Professor T.E. Hull and Professor G.R. Slemon) obtained funding from the National Research Council of Canada to establish and sustain interdisciplinary collaboration between the science and engineering of computer systems.
The objectives of CSRG are to undertake and promote research and development in the design, implementation, and operating characteristics of complex computing systems, and to see that the results of these investigations are used to improve information processing in business, government, and universities.

Unfortunately, after a 15-year work association, three years of work on this project, and a long friendship, the culmination of my efforts was a slew of cancelled accounts and a letter from CSRG unilaterally cancelling Berkeley involvement in 386BSD, and claiming all the work that I had contributed to Berkeley since NET/2 as "University proprietary".
Otherwise, they would continue to be denied access by CSRG to either a licensed or unencumbered version of 386BSD from UCB, and instead be forced to pay for a version of my work from a firm in which they have a private interest.
And, since the Berkeley CSRG has abandoned 386BSD, I am wil- ling to contribute my 386BSD work to other University groups in order to facilitate the establishment of "new" 386BSD projects elsewhere.

By reason of CSRG's development and distribution of the Networking Release 2 software the Regents have breached their obligations under their UNIX(R) software license agreements with USL and have engaged in federal copyright infringement and misappropriation of trade secrets.
As part of that plan, the involved CSRG employees induced the Regents to publicly distribute a substantial portion of the software which had previously been released only to AT&T licensees.
The Regents' conduct constitutes the use in commerce, in connection with goods or services, of a false designation of origin which is likely to cause confusion, or to cause mistake, or to deceive as to the origin of the source code embodied in the Networking Release 2 software.
