Musketeer 412 was reserialed to 134212 on 4 April, 1973 in order to eliminate duplication of tail numbers with the wide-ranging CT-133 serials and was subsequently struck off strength in March, 1994.
The Musketeer was bought in 1971 to replace the Chipmunk as a primary flight trainer.
Many of the surviving Musketeers are held in museums or aviation maintenance schools, as they were not allowed to be sold to the public for flying purposes.

 Musketeer
Beechcraft Musketeer aircraft were first purchased by the Canadian Forces in 1970 to replace the capable but increasingly difficult to maintain Chipmunk ab-initio trainers.
Although not an ideal aircraft for the role, the Musketeer served capably in the guise of a pilot selection vehicle and primary flying trainer.
In 1981, primarily due to structural problems, the original Musketeers were replaced by a newer, improved version based on the Sundowner.

The Musketeer line was in production from model years 1963 to 1983, during which time a total of 4366 were produced.
The CT 114 quickly developed a wash-out rate of near 95% amongst student jet pilots and it was clear that an elementary trainer was needed.
Both batches of Musketeers served with 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School and the Canadian Forces Flying Instructor School at CFB Portage la Prairie Manitoba and the Canadian Forces Central Flying School in Winnipeg until they were replaced by Slingsby Fireflys operated under contract by Bombardier Aerospace in 1992.

The Musketeer was introduced with serials in the 13401 to 13425 range.

 Snowbirds, Major Ian McLean - SB1 (Team Lead)
Major Ian McLean, 44, of London, Ontario, is in his second season as Team Lead for the Snowbirds and flies the No. 1 aircraft.
After enrolling in the Canadian Forces in 1980 and completing Basic Officer Training, he attended both primary and advanced flight training on the CT-134 Musketeer and the CT-114 Tutor aircraft.
Following his Canadian Forces Wings graduation in 1982, Maj. McLean was selected to fly the CC-130 Hercules transport aircraft at 435 Squadron in Edmonton where he performed in Strategic, Tactical and Search and Rescue missions.

After the primary flying course on the CT-134 Musketeer, he went to Moose Jaw Saskatchewan for pilot training on the Tutor jet.
In 1979 he qualified as a Flying Instructor on the Musketeer at Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
Promoted to Captain in 1980, he received multi-engine training on the CC-129 Dakota and was transferred to CFB Greenwood, Nova Scotia in 1982 to fly the CP-140 Aurora with 405 Squadron.

To replace the Chipmunk the CAF purchased an off the shelf Beechcraft trainer, the Beech CT- 134 Musketeer.
The Musketeer proved to be a successful primary trainer for the CAF, but they were withdrawn from service in the early 1990s when Canada privatized its primary training program.
Another trainer type that is on display at the Museum is the Canadian built Canadair CT-114 Tutor.
