CT (computed tomography) angiography (CTA) is an examination that uses x-rays to visualize blood flow in arterial and venous vessels throughout the body, from arteries serving the brain to those bringing blood to the lungs, kidneys, and arms and legs.
CTA is also used to detect narrowing or obstruction of arteries in the pelvis and in the carotid arteries,which bring blood from the heart to the brain.
CTA is a useful way of screening for arterial disease because it is safer and much less time-consuming than catheter angiography and is a cost-effective procedure.

A Coronary CTA is a heart-imaging test currently undergoing rapid development and evaluation for non-invasively determining whether either fatty deposits or calcium deposits have built up in the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle.
Although Coronary CTA examinations are growing in use, coronary angiograms remain the “gold standard” for detecting coronary artery stenosis, which is a significant narrowing of an artery that could require catheter-based intervention (such as stenting) or surgery (such as bypassing).
Coronary CTA also is of limited use in patients with extensive areas of old calcified, or hardened, plaque, which is often the case in older patients.

CTA Board President Carole Brown said she's keeping an open mind about all the whole thing.

 CTA tattler: When solicitation becomes intrusion
Annoyance on the CTA aside, I am still asking myself what the point of this campaign is. I thought that advertising generally positioned goods and services as something desirable.
Whether or not the CTA is private property could be questionable depending upon opinions brought into play, but it does hold true that solicitation is not allowed, you're requested not to talk on the cell phone, and that advertising on CTA premises is required to go through the proper channels (GEICO bars).
CTA property is public space only in the same sense as a police station or post office.

CTA has now said it will scrap the enacted July 17 cuts but was to decide June 9 whether to defer at least until the end of the year increases in paratransit fares.
CTA officials contend the formula is outdated and must be altered to enable the transit agency to eliminate a projected $55 million deficit in 2005.
CTA president Frank Kruesi contends the formula, which is based mainly on sales-tax collections to subsidize transit operations, is outmoded due to shifting population from Chicago to the suburbs.

Metro Detroit CTA has had a very busy 2002 and as we look ahead to 2003 the schedule doesn’t seem to be letting up.
Many of our Metro Detroit CTA members participated in the National CTA conference and we will be discussing it at our December meeting.
Our local CTA members have been attending Voice of the Faithful meetings to give moral support, especially on the issues of developing a lay voice in the diocese and changing Church structure.

The CTA has simply cried wolf waaaay too many times before, has the least public-relations-savvy/most personally-repellent president of probably any public agency in the nation, and clearly does not know how to manage the money it already has (Brown Line anyone?).
If a carpenter comes in to replace a panel in the interior wall and discovers that ants have eaten out most of your side panels and all of your exterior wall panels have to be replaced before winter, that's a cost over-run, but doing so is necessary, its not waste.
CTA has to fund more of its operational funding out of the farebox than most transit systems in the country.

Riding the people mover from the Terminal 5 to the rest of the airport, we can see the CTA Blue Line in the median of the roadway to our right, and we are soon treated to an impressive view of the airport's utility plant on our left and the massive parking garage on the right.
Fare control is on an open mezzanine at the north (outbound) end of the station, with stairs and an escalator leading to a glass-enclosed canopy at street level, on the southeast corner of Belmont and Kimball.
It's ironic that this is actually one of the most well-designed junctions in the CTA system; the corresponding connector tunnel passes under the inbound Blue Line tunnel, allowing trains to travel either route without conflicting with oncoming trains.

I found a friendly CTA guy in the little booth and he accompanied me back to the train, which is still standing in the station.
Later that morning, The Tribune reported that someone waiting for the train on the North/Clybourn platform apparently got too close to the train as it entered the station and was "brushed back" (hit) by the train.
The CTA reports that rail entries in that area were down 9.5% in April compared to a year ago, but by June were only down 4.7%.

Stretched and skewed the CTA map so that it was aligned as closely as possible to the Google map.
you're right that the cta map isn't always totally precise: bryn mawr and broadway, for example, display a block or two northeast of their actual location, but still...just incredible.

I've been riding the CTA to work for more than a year and half now, and I still find it pretty darn fascinating.
