  CTSS
CTSS, which stood for the Compatible Time-Sharing System, was an operating system for the IBM 7094 mainframe computer and was originally used by Project MAC at MIT.
CTSS was first published and operated in a time-sharing environment in 1961 and was one of the first modern computer operating systems.
Multics, which was also developed by Project MAC, in a loose sense was developed as sort of a successor to CTSS for future development of multiple-access computing during the 1960s.

CTSS was first demonstrated in 1961, and was operated at MIT until 1973.
Although CTSS was not an influential operating system in its technical detail, it was very influential in showing that time-sharing was viable, in the new applications for computers which were first instantiated there, and because of its successor, Multics, which all modern operating systems are intellectually descended from.
CTSS had one of the first computerized text formatting utilities, and one of the first inter-user electronic mail implementations.

eMedicine - Brain, Capillary Telangiectasia : Article Excerpt by: Andrew L Wagner, MD
Pathophysiology: CTSs are formed by a network of aneurysmally dilated capillaries that are usually located in a section of normal brain tissue, although adjacent areas of gliosis and small amounts of hemorrhage have been described.
CTSs are typically small, ranging from a few millimeters to several centimeters in size.
CTSs are usually solitary, but they may also be found in association with other brain vascular malformations such as cavernous angiomas and venous angiomas.

CTSS was “compatible” in the sense that FORTRAN Monitor System (FMS) (qv) batch streams could be run in the “background” simultaneously with up to 35 “foreground” time-sharing users.
Several CTSS commands were ancestors of facilities still in use: the “RUNOFF”; command led to the Unix “roff” and “troff”; commands, the “ARCHIVE” command is the ancestor of “tar,” and the “MAIL” command is the ancestor of the Unix mail command.
A major use of CTSS was as the development platform for Multics.

Perhaps understandably, CTSS sufferers are reluctant to face the kind of systemic changes needed to salvage their plans, even when these issues are pointed out.
These CTSS plans include many unbuildable or inoperable features, but both the designers and viewers are misled by how good they look.

eMedicine - Brain, Capillary Telangiectasia : Article by Andrew L Wagner, MD
However, Lee and colleagues surmise that the hemoglobin within may be only partly converted to deoxyhemoglobin because the dilated capillaries result in relatively stagnant blood; therefore, it has only a mild paramagnetic effect.
Conversely, T2-weighted images of CTSs typically show no abnormality because the deoxyhemoglobin should not cause decreased signal intensity (see Images 2, 6-8).
Degree of Confidence: The finding of a small area of enhancement without an abnormality or mass effect on a T2-weighted image and the finding of susceptibility dephasing on GRE images is strongly suggestive of a CTS, particularly if it the lesions is in the pons.
