CTV made a name for itself in news coverage when they convinced star CBC news anchor Lloyd Robertson to switch networks in 1976.
In early 2005, CTV was part of the consortium that won the Canadian broadcast rights to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, as well as the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Although this is no longer the case, for many years some CTV stations were better known by colloquial names than by their official call letters (a situation that generally did not apply to CBC stations).

CTV was founded in 1961 after a federal inquiry decided the CBC should not have a monopoly on television broadcasting in Canada.
It no longer airs CTV programming in prime time, aside from a rare acquired program such as Desperate Housewives, but continues to hold broadcast rights to CTV's national newscasts; in exchange it provides news coverage of events in its home province to CTV.
In many cases, CTV has been the only conventional broadcast network in the world to air these series in prime time.

Until I read Channel Canada’s CTV schedule grid, I was assumed that CTV had dropped some of my favourite primetime programs because they didn’t announce their renewal in the press release.
CTV renewed three ABC comedies (8 Simple Rules, Less than Perfect and My Wife and Kids) and joining them on Sunday afternoons for two hours beginning at 4pm is ABC’s hottest new comedy from fall 2003, Hope and Faith.
I hope that CTV will be more committed to its comedies this year, as it failed to air more than half of the episode of Scrubs this season as NBC bounced it back and forth from Thursday to Tuesday.

CTV’s position on the matter is that by virtue of having a different cast, a somewhat dissimilar name and a production period wholly emancipated from the prior episodes, it’s a different show.  I believe this to be a facetious argument.
Due to the CBSC’s publicly articulated position on this show, I think its current incarnation should be taken off the air.  I am, however, only articulating this complaint as a formality to embarrass the Canadian Broadcasting [sic] Standards Council and to demonstrate, incontrovertably and permanently, the irrelevance of the council.
As requested, CTV is responding formally to the letter of [the complainant] concerning Power Rangers Wild Force (CBSC File Number C02/03-260).
