The cweave program converts the same CWEB file into a TeX file that may be formatted and printed in the usual way.
CWEB allows you to prepare a single document containing all the information that is needed both to produce a compilable C program and to produce a well-formatted document describing the program in as much detail as the writer may desire.
The user of CWEB ought to be familiar with TeX as well as C. The command line should have one, two, or three names on it.

The CWeb Schema Editor   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
In terms of a database, the CWeb schema is a conceptual schema distinguishing between conceptual entities and associations between entities which can be represented as a labeled graph.
This also means that a CWeb schema is not built from scratch and we only consider applications (communities) who already have invested in the conceptualization of their specific application domain by creating some ontologies and thesauri.
The most important benefit of this approach is that the creation of a CWeb schema is much easier than the creation of a complex conceptual schema from scratch, which generally leads to endless discussions and misunderstandings.

Knuth: The CWEB system is an add-on to C that makes programming better than any other method known in the world, by far.
CWEB is much better than WEB, because C is a much nicer language to work with for system programming and lots of other things.
CWEB is a tool that I recommend using even if you're writing a program only for yourself, for your eyes only.

The philosophy behind the CWEB structured documentation is that programmers who want to provide the best possible documentation for their programs need two things simultaneously: a language like TEX for formatting, and a language like C for programming.
CWEB provides a means of extracting C code and TeX formatting instructions from one source document.
The source document is written in a simple markup language that combines TEX and C. An excellent program documentation tool for manuals and short courses.

Realising that this divergence is undesirable and confusing, the development of this branch from \.{CWEB}~3.x to the current version was mainly concerned with improving compatibility and peaceful coexistence with the other branch.
First of all the name was changed by moving the character~`x' to the front of the version number, so that this branch of the system can be referred to as `\.{CWEBx}' without mentioning a complete version number; for clarity we shall refer to the other branch as `\LKC.'.

CWEB is a version of WEB for documenting C and C++ programs.
WEB was adapted to C by Silvio Levy in 1987, and since then both Knuth and Levy have revised and enhanced the system in many ways, notably to support C++ and ANSI C. Thus CWEB combines TeX with two of today's most widely used professional programming languages.
The CWEB software itself is freely available via anonymous ftp from labrea.stanford.edu on the Internet.

Cweb - The CWEB System of Structured Documentation
The philosophy behind CWEB is that programmers who want to provide the best possible documentation for their programs need two things simultaneously: a language like TeX for formatting, and a language like C for programming.
But when both are appropriately combined, we obtain a system that is much more useful than either language separately.
Besides providing a documentation tool, CWEB enhances the C language by providing the ability to permute pieces of the program text, so that a large system can be understood entirely in terms of small sections and their local interrelationships.
