dragonsworn [movie review] - Cabin Fever
Much of the movie is devoted to slyly winking at the classic horrors at the seventies/eighties, which can be either witty or irritating, depending on the circumstances, and preferences of the viewer.
The disease remains unexplained for the length of the movie, but investigating the ins and outs of epidimiology was never the intent of 'Cabin Fever'.
There's plenty of gore in the movie, and seeing the victims swathed in blood with their flesh rotting away is pretty disturbing, and makes for setting a nice, dark, mood.

Cabin Fever Movie Review at Hollywood Video
As a recipe, the movie might read like this: two parts Evil Dead 1 and 2, one part Rabid, a dollop of Night of the Living Dead, and a sprinkling of Deliverance.
At a time when most horror movies are of the jokey Scream/Scary Movie variety or mundane sequels like Freddy vs. Jason and Jeepers Creepers 2, Cabin Fever arrives to remind us of just how spooky, silly, and magnificent the genre can be.
Cabin Fever doesn't break any new ground in the horror genre (nor does it even attempt to), but it is cheap, nasty, funny, and gross (all the while staying a few cuts above the dross that comes from Troma Studios).

Flipside Movie Emporium: Cabin Fever Movie Review
Co-written and directed by first-timer Eli Roth, Cabin Fever is a fun and freakishly gruesome backwoods horror romp that stirs up fond memories of everything from Night of the Living Dead and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Evil Dead and Last House on the Left.
Cabin Fever could easily be seen as an AIDS parable, but as social commentary it's too sketchy for its own good.
It's easier to appreciate the film for its surface charms: the requisite brutal violence and gore, a dash of premarital sex and nudity (courtesy of the beautiful Cerina Vincent), and a quirky, absurdist sense of humor that brings to mind Roth's quasi-mentor, David Lynch.

Although this movie provides us with some rather quirky scenes and characters, it is never enough to pull it up from the morass of mediocrity in which it happily floats.
Eli Roth’s movie tells the story of five newly-minted college graduates beginning their summer vacation by taking a relaxing escape to a remote log cabin in the woods.
In what promises to be one of the funniest lines in all of horror movie history, one of the girls says of the incident, “That man asked for our help, and we lit him on fire.” Truly, these five college kids aren’t exactly models of compassion and empathy.

Director Eli Roth is without a doubt a horror aficionado, and CABIN FEVER will probably stand as the film that launches the career of this contemporary visionary of the macabre.
From the cinematography and sound design, to the special effects and the score, CABIN FEVER has the look and feel of any big budget studio production, and might even be a bit better than a few of the so called ³summer blockbusters² released so far this year.
Somewhere between ³Deliverance² and ³28 Days Later is CABIN FEVER, a delightfully decadent homage to the classic horror films of the 70¹s and 80¹s.

Cabin Fever (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cabin Fever (2003) is an American horror film written and directed by Eli Roth.
It is a 1970s genre throwback, and pays homage to some of the most popular horror films, such as The Evil Dead by Sam Raimi, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre original by Tobe Hooper and The Last House on the Left by horror master Wes Craven.
Cabin Fever was Lion's Gate's lowest budget ($1.5 million) and highest grossing ($22 million) film of 2003.

"Cabin Fever is most effective when attending to its inevitable victims, and its misguided effort to break away from the isolation of the cabin results in the unfortunate loss of a palpable claustrophobia."
Unfortunately, Cabin Fever is a bit too self-conscious for its own good, oftentimes oscillating between homage and parody, though never quite settling comfortably into its own, borrowed skin.
Overall, Cabin Fever is an entertaining, albeit imperfect, throwback to a style long gone, though with such promise on evident display, one would be foolish not to look toward Roth for great things in the future.

Some might try to compare elements of Cabin Fever's story to the vulnerability and arrogance of society, seeing the young group as a micro-unit of the earth's inhabitants on the averaged whole, or they might say that the film reflects the true, uninhibited instincts of man, which all depends on your definitions of both.
In the end, Cabin Fever's appeal will likely infect moviegoers who enjoy being "grossed-out." Other moviegoers will just be trying to keep down their popcorn.

"Cabin Fever," Roth's own homage to horror, includes allusions to the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Last House on the Left" and "Evil Dead," among others.
His story of five friends who come in contact with a flesh-eating virus while vacationing in a remote cabin not only plays off of old horror genre themes, but also capitalizes on today's pervading atmosphere of paranoia.
Apparently, Roth's efforts were not lost on Jackson, who enthusiastically offered to provide quotes for "Cabin Fever," the first time he'd ever offered such a testimonial for a film of any genre.
