The UK Cabinet Office has reaffirmed its commitment to putting IT at the centre of its operations with the publication of its expenditure plans.
Last week the Cabinet Office, which oversees the Prime Minister's aim that it will be possible to do 25 per cent of all government transactions electronically by 2002, said it is 81 per cent of the way towards achieving this objective.
The Office aims to increase the proportion of electronic purchasing transactions made within the department to 55 per cent this year, and 65 per cent by 2002.

The award was for work on the UK Government Gateway project; this is a centralised authentication gateway for access to online public services, and the work in question was to add a Liberty ID-FF front-end to the gateway server.
This is one of a number of identity-related projects on which Sun and Microsoft have worked together since the 'technology agreement' of a couple of years ago, and to my mind, it clearly shows the potential for such joint efforts to be of direct benefit the customer.
