Cabramatta is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales (NSW), Australia, 32 km south-west of the Sydney.
Cabramatta has become reknowned for its severe crime problems, the most notable of these being the distribution of Drug-dealing.
Cabramatta is also remembered for the political murder of a NSW State MP, John Newman, outside his Cabramatta home in September, 1994.

Looking past this veneer, one finds that Cabramatta was a remarkable melting pot for all manner of Asian and Europeon peoples in the latter half of the 20th century.
Cabramatta High School was statistically the most diverse and multicultural school in Sydney, and the author recalls being in a minority of less than 10% of chidren for whom both parents were born in Australia.
Only the language school remained: it continued to teach english as a second language into the early 1990s, until such time as the entire hostel site was demolished and developed into residential housing.

The Georges River Regional Council, with the consent of the parish council, provisionally reclassified Cabramatta as a provisional parish from 1 January 1997 and recommends that Synod confirm the reclassification.

Arrests are up and crime is down or stable in Cabramatta according to a new report on the suburb’s crime problems released today by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research.
The downward trends in crime in Cabramatta coincided with a substantial (50 per cent) increase in the number of all offenders proceeded against by way of arrest and charge, rather than court attendance notice.
‘Cabramatta has a long way to go before it is as tranquil as Ku-ring-gai but it has shown signs of real improvement in crime over the last two years’.

Police still have no clue as to what sparked a shooting at a wedding reception in Sydney's west last night in which seven people were wounded.
Cabramatta Local Area commander Superintendent Frank Hansen said police still did not know what caused the argument between a wedding guest and a table of diners at the restaurant in John Street, Cabramatta, about 11pm (AEST).
He said the victims were being treated in Liverpool and Westmead hospitals and police were still interviewing the 140 guests at the wedding reception.

While police chiefs insist that their campaign to boost beat policing has been a success, there have been more than 500 overdoses in Cabramatta in the last two years and the number of arrests for drug dealing has fallen by 52%.
None of the 140 officers in Cabramatta speak Vietnamese or Chinese.

In 2001, Cabramatta recorded a rate of robbery with a firearm of 48.0 per 100,000 (compared with the NSW rate of 13.5), and a rate of steal from person of 387.5 per 100,000 (compared with 253.7 in NSW).
