 Cacak-Zablace modernised railroad put into operation
Cacak - Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic today put into operation the electrified and modernised 9.5 km long Cacak-Zablace railroad, completing the Cacak-Kraljevo railroad's first electrification phase.
Ilic said on that occasion that this is a large investment that aims to connect in a short period the Bar railroad from Pozega, via Cacak and Kraljevo with Corridor 10, which was one of the European Union's conditions for its gaining a corridor status.
The Minister announced the continuation of the electrified railroad works between Cacak and Kraljevo, the installation of posts and contact networks on the Zablace-Slatine route, the beginning of construction works, and added that all necessary material has been procured.

RTV Cacak, established in early 1999, first fended off an attempt by the authorities to close it down in February this year, when officials from the Ministry of Telecommunications were prevented by about two thousand furious Cacak citizens from banning the station and confiscating its equipment.
The ban on RTV Cacak also pre-empted the imposition of an obligation to rebroadcast state news programs during the state of war.
In the course of hearings of a legal appeal against the ban, the Federal Ministry of Telecommunications, which issued the banning order, was unable to explain how RTV Cacak had harmed the country's defence.

CACAK, Yugoslavia (AP) - Despite police attempts to prevent it, opposition members Tuesday mounted the first public rally against Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic since the end of the NATO air campaign.
Local officials said a Norwegian and a French television crew bound for Cacak were turned back 15 miles outside the capital, but dozens of reporters were still present for the rally.
Posters with bold letters reading: "For Freedom, For Cacak," were plastered along town streets, exhorting town residents to attend the rally.

This really excellent Open Water swimming event has been organized for the second time, in the most beautiful part of the gorge of Zapadna Morava River, Central Serbia, 18 km to the West of the town of Cacak.
Dragan Savkovic, prof, Marathon Director for all his kindness, as well as to the people of Cacak Swimming Club for the marvelous sport event.

The work on the improvement of cultivar range in Yugoslavia and breeding new plum cultivars was started at the Fruit Research Institute at Cacak (Now Fruit and Grape Research Centre) as early as in 1949.
For that purpose the method of clonal selection of indigenous cultivars (mostly Pozegaca), introduction, intra- and inter- species hybridization and the induction of mutations by gamma radiation have been employed.
