Cachalot is unique among the eight camps operated by the Narragansett Council, as it is the only camp actually owned by the Council.
The Cachalot District, which covers the area that once was the Cachalot Council, served 1,377 youth at the end of 2004, with Chris Rooney as District Executive.
Cachalot even played host to a number of units displaced from Narragansett's Camp Yawgoog by an unexpected (and temporary) closure in 2005, with members of the Alumni Association pitching in to help welcome and orient these first-time Cachalot visitors.

A permanent name for the new district was chosen from entries selected in a contest open to all scouts in the district and will be officially announced at a district roundtable meeting on Sept. 14.
The Narragansett Council has seven districts that include all of Rhode Island, portions of neighboring Massachusetts and a small portion of bordering Connecticut, according to Kelly.
Kelly, the new senior district executive, agrees and has set a goal of increasing the local roster from 2,500 to 2,700 participants by the end of this year.

Camp Cachalot, located in the Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth, Mass., is the other Boy Scout resident camp in the Narragansett Council, B.S.A. Camp Cachalot sits on 880 acres surrounding Five Mile Pond.
Cachalot offers many of the same activities as Camp Yawgoog, including kayaking, lifeguard training, the Counselor-In-Training Corps., high adventure courses and the merit badge programs.
Cachalot opened on July 8 this year and is a popular camp for Boy Scout Troops in southeastern Mass.

PLYMOUTH -- In the largest competition of the season, Boy Scouts will put their skills to the test and take part in a sled race.
Scouts from the Cachalot District of the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America, along with Scouts from nine other communities, will take part in the 25th annual Klondike Derby today at Cachalot Scout Reservation in Plymouth.
Scouts will compete in round-robin events that test skills such as tying knots, cooking and first aid, all while towing their sleds.
