Cacophony (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cacophony is a US band formed in 1986 by guitarists Marty Friedman and Jason Becker.
The band also featured Atma Anur on drums and Peter Marrino on vocals, although the main focus of their music was the guitars.
Cacophony is often recognized for its technically challenging, neoclassical metal elements.

Cacophony - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cacophony (from the Greek word kakophonia - kakos (bad) + phoni (voice, sound)) refers to sound that is harsh and unpleasant-sounding.
The opposite of cacophony is euphony, meaning musical and pleasant.
The closely related term dissonance implies a combination of sounds which clash; its antonym, harmony, suggests sounds that fit together well.

 Marty Friedman - Dragon's Kiss
Cacophony were short lived, starting around 1986 and for some unjust reason, separating in 1988, after only about two years, having only released two albums.
Due to the fact that the two solo albums were recorded just after Cacophony split up ensures that the guitarists sound the same as in their previous albums, which is a good thing.
Out of the two Cacophony albums, Speed Metal Symphony, (their first release in 1987, and commonly argued as their best), was predominantly written and played by Marty, so it is not surprising that Dragon's Kiss resembles the latter more than Cacophony's 1988 release, Go Off.

As the band name implies, it's doubtful that HPL would have found much enjoyment in something so discordant (Gilbert and Sullivan it ain't), but if one has a taste for progressive and utterly experimental punk rock, Cacophony is a rich and rewarding experience.
Rudimentary Peni are viewed as cornerstones of the anarcho-punk movement that flourished in Britain in the early 80s as a reaction to Thatcherism, but they always considered their music to have more gothic overtones, and they've been justifiably claimed by the deathrock community as well.
Cacophony goes to great lengths to not only frame the passages of pure Lovecraftian horror properly (heavy vocal distortion is applied to a passage from "The Whisperer In The Dark" to replicate the horrid buzzing voice found on Akeley's phonograph), but also to explore as many aspects of Lovecraft's life itself as possible.

But years before that, they were just one more upstart band toiling in the post-punk swamp of the late-70s UK, cutting tangled avant-dance records for the clubs in Orwell's Oceania.
Here, the band is moving away from its disorganized debut, Life in a Day (to say it was padded with filler is pretty charitable) and toward the expansive, reverb-soaked anthems that characterized its greatest achievement, 1982's New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84), and their eventual string of U.S. hits.
A thoughtfully chosen highlight reel from the band's first six albums would really be an ideal introduction but, as none exists, either of these albums would be a good doorway to an oft-neglected band.
