In 1989, the Quebec government recognized the Maliseet as the eleventh Aboriginal Nation of the province.
The Viger Maliseet First Nation of Cacouna, Quebec, in partnership with the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, the Secrétariat aux Affaires autochtones du Québec and the Canada Millennium Partnership Program, has enhanced the only heritage building of the Maliseet First Nation.
In addition, the outbuildings are used for workshops to demonstrate the art of basketry, an ancient Maliseet tradition that flourished when Cacouna was a very popular resort.

St-Francois, which in 1843 became the USA - Canadian border.  Upstream of Cacouna and Rivière-du-Loup were 27 Seigneuries (land holdings of minor nobles) fronting La Côte-du-Sud (south shore) of the St. Lawrence for the 125 miles southwest to Quebec City.
In summary, apparently only the families of 3 of the 8 children managed to reach Quebec.  Part of one sister's family survived transport to France.  Half of the 8 children and families have minimal records and may have died fleeing the British in the forests or at sea during deportation.
Paul Terriot's escape from the 1755 Deportation and the escape of brother Joseph and sister Marguerite from Acadia to Quebec was told in preceding section.  The situation in 1750s for each of Paul's paternal aunts and uncles and their families follows.
