 Euro2day :: Cadbury Schweppes
Though it may appear rather tardy, Cadbury Schweppes' introduction of the world's best-selling sugarless gum to the UK shows good market timing.
Furthermore, Cadbury has a lot of clout in the UK market because of its dominant position in confectionary, where it is more than twice as big as its next rival; but in gum it is dwarfed by Wrigley's more than 90 per cent market share, suggesting there is plenty of scope for growth.
The other fortuitous aspect of Cadbury's timing is that gum could help make up for recent disappointing UK chocolate sales, which the company has blamed mainly on the hot summer rather than a salmonella recall.
