The Caddo Parish Commission (the "Commission") is the governing authority for the Parish of Caddo and is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana.
The Commission replaced the Caddo Parish Police Jury which was established January 18, 1838.
Although the Caddo Parish Commission holds a membership in the Louisiana Police Jury Association, Caddo Parish is among a few parishes that operates under the "commission-administrator" form of government.

Caddo Parish is located in the far Northwest corner of Louisiana approximately 185 miles due east of Dallas.
The total population of the parish is 252,161 (2000 Census), and the parish covers approximately 852 square miles.
The Caddo Parish Communications District was created by Parish Ordinance, and this ordinance allowed for the creation of an appointed seven-member citizen board to establish policies and to provide oversight to the 9-1-1 system and to the 9-1-1 staff.

If a Caddo is killed in battle, the body is never buried, but left to be devoured by beasts or birds of prey, and the condition of such individuals in the other world is considered to be far better than that of persons dying a natural death.
Another factor that influenced the Caddoes to sell their lands, was the government policy of settling in the territory claimed by the small bands of Indians driven from other sections by the west ward expansion of the whites.
