The Cadet Spirit Band is a multi-faceted organization that supports the Corps of Cadets at large.
Starting out in the early 1900's as a small hop band and a few violins, the Cadet Band has expanded and contracted throughout the years.
The Band has secured its own niche at the US Military Academy, and continues to be a source of motivation and inspiration for athletes, fans, and audiences of the Army team.

The University Band, as it was known before 1923, was truly an all-purpose unit, serving as the band for the University Cadets, as the band raising the California Spirit at athletic events and rallies, and as a concert band.
He compared the USC Band to a vaudeville show, with balloons, confetti, pistols, and stunts which had no relation to the spirit of the football game that it was supposed to supplement; in contrast, he said the California Band was like a chorus from a grand opera for its musical excellence, drilling, and coordination.
Band officers believed that the Baton Society, which was student-run like the Band, would be of greater service to the members of the Cal Band than would a national fraternity.

 LSU Band History
The cadet corps and military programs at LSU were also highly respected, particularly by the nation’s armed forces leaders.When Louisiana’s famous populist Governor Huey P. Long took a personal interest in the LSU Band in the early 1930's, major changes began to take place that set the band on a unique course toward national prominence.
The band department was established as a component of the LSU School of Music, one of the few in the south at that time.
And in 2002 the LSU Tiger Marching Band received the Sudler Trophy, the "Heisman Trophy of college marching bands," as they were voted the best college marching band in the country.

Due to the fact that the students do not get much time with the band instructor during the 5th grade year, this class starts off with review of the basics before getting further in to the text, which is Essential Elements 2000, Book 1.
This class is for students who have completed Cadet Band or incoming students who have demonstrated that they are ready for this class by auditioning.
Jazz Band performs for the student body and at a local festival and is available to perform short concerts for the public.

The Cadet pipe band combined with the Regimental pipe band for the first time on the St. Julien's Parade in April of that year, and continued to operate with the Regimental Pipes and Drums on several occasions, including the Lethbridge Tattoo in May, and the Stampede Parade in July.
In the spring of 1989, one cadet was chosen by the NCSPD to attend a two week course at the Army School of Piping at Edinburgh Castle, Scotland - quite an honour for only two cadets from across Canada are chosen for the course from across Canada.

The University of Minnesota Marching Band was founded in 1892 as the University Cadet Band, with 29 members.
In 1950, a new "Girls' Band" was formed at the University, which later was called the "Women's Division" of the marching band and remained for a number of years.
The band has had 18 directors from 1892 through 2004, starting with Neville Staughton, the director of the Winona community band and a Lieutenant in the Cadet Corps.

The Cadet Band's director was actually a musical instrument salesman from Lincoln who had been hired by the University to run its Conservatory for Musical Instruction.
The cadets and band won several honors for their precision and began to draw large crowds at their weekly reviews.

 A Brief History of the Minuteman Band
In 1892, the Cadet Band performed open-air concerts in a new bandstand located east of South College, near where the present tower library stands today.
During the 1993 season, the band was immortalized in the documentary film, Building Power and Class and it performed before its largest national band audience at the Bands of America Grand National Championships.
